| | | Jonas | 11-21-2007 07:58 PM | The hypocrisy of eBay saying "fax a merchant account statement" Whenever I've had chargebacks saying "not authorized" from buyers, I tell eBay the person did credit card fraud and I explain I got stuff in the mail and ask where do I fax it. eBay then responds saying to forward a copy of the email to ebay. I explain over and over that I have a real merchant account and got physical paper and not an email and like a broken record, eBay just asks for email headers. I eventually give up after seeing that others that the person frauded who used PayPal got the buyer's account suspended.
Yet now eBay wants merchant account statements faxed when they keep doing stuff like this. |
| ihatebay | 11-22-2007 07:12 PM | so, did anyone submit a faxed copy of the their merchant account statement?
how did it go? i wonder how long it's going to take them to do release/unblock your account? |
| ihatebay | 11-22-2007 09:15 PM | Does this happen to only new accounts or all accounts? I have a few old accounts, just wondering if this message is occuring for NEW accounts only? Or, will it happen with old accounts as well?
Selling on EBay is going to be a BI4CH with faxing all this crap.
I think we all should stop posting how to get back or solutions to getting back on Ebay in public, I mean it's pretty much guaranteed that there are Ebay trolls around. |
| aspkin | 11-23-2007 04:15 AM | It's just happening to new accounts. |
| Jonas | 11-23-2007 12:11 PM | If the new accounts age for 90 days or so will it eventually go away? |
| aspkin | 11-23-2007 12:45 PM | I doubt it, but it's still a brand new thing with eBay... |
| Chris Hanson | 11-23-2007 02:58 PM | i think they are only doing this for Xmas season. It would be wayyyy too much time and manpower to assist every fax..Or that may be the point.. Take their time so they can juice you with paypal |
| imjustme | 11-23-2007 03:29 PM | Only for Christmas? Like, making life difficult for eBay sellers as a gift? :D |
| leonid5000 | 11-23-2007 04:46 PM | i got this Christmas Gift and now i know how to play with it. |
| frosty | 11-23-2007 06:55 PM | It is most likely for new accounts:
"Step 3. Offer PayPal or a Merchant Account Credit Card as a Payment Method To keep eBay a safe place for both buyers and sellers, sellers who register after January 17, 2007 are required to offer either PayPal or a merchant account credit card as an accepted payment method for their items. PayPal allows you to accept credit card and electronic check payments online from your buyers. You can sign up for PayPal before you list your first item for sale, or you can sign up when you list your first item."
However, nothing on the user site about merchant accounts.
You could always check the boards: Community : Discussion Boards |
| ihatebay | 11-23-2007 09:56 PM | I faxed in the information Creating Ebay accounts without a PAYPAL account is going to be a pain in the azz. I created 2 new accounts, and faxed in my merchant account statements. I got an email back from Ebay that they can't confirm it (how can they confirm it anyways? It's not like my merchant account will disclose my private details to them).
So, they are asking yet again, for the merchant account statement which I ALREADY provided.
I think it's just a lame excuse to make sellers use Paypal.
Here is the exact email I received:
Dear XXX
Thank you for submitting your merchant processing statement to eBay.
I have completed our review, but was unable to confirm the statement
provided. To list items on eBay, please provide the following:
- a valid copy of your most recent merchant processing statement. Please
note that it doesn't need to have any transactions, we simply need to
see a complete, recent statement.
Fax this information to (866) 309-6493.
While we confirm your merchant credit card statement, you can continue
listing items on eBay with PayPal as the payment method. More
information about Selecting Payment Methods You'll Accept can be found
at the following link: Selecting Payment Methods You’ll Accept
We appreciate you taking the time to help keep eBay a safe and fun place
to trade.
Sincerely, |
| leonid5000 | 11-24-2007 01:17 AM | i don't know what you sent them but they didn't like it. Next time send them legal note that if they won't accept your merchant account statement, they will be sued for attempting to monopolize payment services (i.e. forcing people to accept only paypal), not to mention all the other not legally sound things they're doing. .. |
| Rosanna | 11-24-2007 01:30 AM | Is the info on the merchant account statement the same as what is on the ebay account? Or are you faxing it and blocking out name, address, etc? |
| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 08:18 AM | it's exactly the same, did NOT block out anything.
 |
| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 08:19 AM | BTW I did this for two accounts and the guy that answered was teh same guy so basically it's like a one person reviewing all this info. so use common sense... |
| ebayhateluv | 11-24-2007 11:29 AM | HI- just faxed in the CCNOW Merchant statement--- (it was used on 11 prev suspended ebay accts, btw)-- they reinstated in 1 day. BTW- I also got a landline verification call at that particular acct. Dont know if its coincidence or not? THe call was within 4 hours of faxing in the statement. NOTE- I DID block out the owners info--JUST IN CASE i need to use this again-- I had over 3 months statements-- i faxed ebay the statement from September,2007, i still have june, july, october, november for 4 other accts if I need.--When you fax the ccnow statement- choose the VIEW--without the ebay item NUMBERS, obviously. Otherwise, they can simply find out-- AH HA-- this is a 5 time suspended seller trying to get back in again... |
| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 11:32 AM | you serious? im opening a CCnow account now |
| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 11:33 AM | did you have your DBA: EBAY NAME and REAL NAME or ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name? |

| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 12:37 PM | Hey, I don't see the "VIEW" page. I just signed up for it, is there any page that shows my Ebay ID or name? I mean, I don't know what to fax them with a brand new CCnow account if there are no account info or merchant ID... |
| Jonas | 11-24-2007 12:43 PM | Is eBay really just trying to figure if people really have a merchant account? Has anyone gotten this error using autiva with it set up to pay through auctiva and authorize.net because when you do that, they gotta use a merchant account? Or is this when you just click "merchant account" and then have to email the buyer "go to this website" ? |
| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 01:01 PM | you have to verify your merchant account, otherwise the item will not list through Auctiva. |
| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 01:14 PM | i just faxed my CCnow stuff showing my address, payment info, will update later if they indeed check it within 4 hours of receiving it. |

| ihatebay | 11-24-2007 01:29 PM | I mean after November 20th, you have to verify your merchant account assuming that is only what you are using (no paypal). You can't bypass the Ebay message/alert to verify your merchant account by using Auctiva.
I use only Auctiva, and I get an API error when trying to list on a new ID created AFTER November 20th. My old accounts are fine. |
| imjustme | 11-24-2007 02:35 PM | They actually say they will approve it within 4 hours? |
| ihatebay | 11-25-2007 11:26 AM | No, the other person got it approved within 4 hours so I thought I may too. But maybe they don't work on Sunday or something |
| ebayhateluv | 11-25-2007 01:08 PM | HI- ok, at the top of your main ccnow screen- you will see tabs- starting with SALES, then all the way to the right see REPORTING--choose that one, then under that tab you will see subtitles, DO NOT CHOOSE GORSS SALES REPORTS--that is eachsale by ebay item number, instead choose either SALES HISTORY, then click to the left- for particular month you want, this is in dollars by day, i.e. 9/10/2007......$495.00...... fees......$5.15.....Net$489.85---also you amy choose the ACCOUNT STATEMENT VIEW---then choose the period you want---i.e. SEPTEMBER 2007--you will see Sales but NO EBAY numbers at all..... Hope this helps! |
| ebayhateluv | 11-25-2007 01:11 PM | BTW- if you want to run an off ebay sale through ccnow-- goto overstock.com--create a dummy item, i.e. Wholesale Lot of Jeans, then the price you and ther buyer agrees upon for your Gucci watches or whatever, then post the overstock.com listing. NOW- go to ccnow- use that overstock.com listing number, then send your off ebay buyer the invoice. I did get an overstock.com message the 1st time i did this, it was a $995 sale. I faxed them in my dumpster company invoice and a letter stating it was all household goods, they had the overstock.com back up in a matter of hours. Its DIFFICULT to find the overstoack.com cust svc info the first time you do it--BUT, they seem very friendly compared to the Bear--Ebay! |
| Chris Hanson | 11-25-2007 01:34 PM | Do you think Ebay will accept a brand new ccnow merchant account with no transactions to show?? |
| octagon69 | 11-25-2007 02:45 PM | I don't see why they wouldn't. Eventually they will have to. I'll try it out, what do I got to lose but $10.00 through Ccnow. |
| ebayhateluv | 11-25-2007 05:00 PM | If it would help-- I can surely post one or 2 of my months accts Statements from ccnow, with sales for scanning-- BUT, Chris or Aspkin would have to tell me how to get it from on line viewing, to this forum?? I can see it, i can print it, but then how to get it here to share?? (Thats only IF someone needs it??) |
| ihatebay | 11-25-2007 11:45 PM | hey im probably going to hear from them tomorrow since it's monday. I emailed trust and safety explaining that I am a new seller with a business and so I created a merchant account for my ebay sales. Hence, there are no transactions. The guy replied back saying that it was okay that there are 0 transactions, they still want to see a complete statement (wtf?)... so I just faxed them 7 pages of my CCnow account info showing all my account and billing information.
If this doesn't work, then F it, I'm going to work on ⊗⊗⊗⊗ paypal accounts. |
| ebayhateluv | 11-26-2007 12:07 AM | Yes, my friend, thats what they force us to do... I've got my mind up, paypal has their own little scam going---they have over 100 million memebrs, i read once where at ANY ONE TIME--they have only 1 % of their members in limitaiton, so thats 1 million members, avg, member has $45 in their acct (according to this article i read, mine was always in the hundreds)-- so thats $45 million on any given day- they are drawing interest free on...Anyone out there could live off of that? I know i could! :)) |
| Chris Hanson | 11-26-2007 12:19 AM | Yeah that is crazy bit very true. Most people that have $40 or so in the account just leaves it in there becuase it isnt worth the trouble of fighting with paypal |
| ebayhateluv | 11-26-2007 05:39 AM | Sent chris the CCNOW statement to post here. 2 members have PM me for a copy. I did not know how to get it to this forum from my screen? Just from the screen to the printer then to the BIC white out then to the fax machine for ebay :)) |
| ebaykilla | 12-03-2007 02:19 PM | so let me get this straight...we need to verify a merchant account now on ebay before selling without paypal on a new ebay ID? is this confirmed or a rumour |
| ebayisanecessaryevil | 12-03-2007 03:07 PM | CONFIRMED!
Tried on 2 names listing through ebay's site and a warning screen popped up on both to fax them you merchant account statement. |
