MC 999 Verify call
 

after 2 new accts getting shut down for my failure to call in on the mc99 verify call, i took the plunge and now realize why people hate ebay.

call went like this

• she asked about my product, where i get it.
• she asked how long i've been at my current address
• she had me confirm my bday 2x. I think in an attempt to trip me up
• she ask for a previous address, i gave an old college address i remembered
• she asked for something 10 years or older. when i told I dont know an address that old i have to go find something with it on it she said she'd wait
• i inquired what the old address did to identify me and offered to send in drivers licence to here ( a bluff on my part) and she said no, she wanted an address 10+
• at this point she became agitated. she needed address 10years old or older and then here computer would give her questions to ask me.
• she said i was suspended and I thanked for making my first encounter with ebay so pleasant and she hung up.

I hesitated on just pulling a bs address out of the air thinking she would just Google it and see its not real. I curious what this data base is they use and how it could verify who I am.

Next call i'll be prepped with old address and dates i lived there.

Feel free to share questions you were asked so we can all be better prepared for these calls/

Easy. Tell them you were living in a hut in Bolivia 10 years ago.

Having the stealth info in front of you, a believable story as to why there is no record for you and a smooth talk usually works.

I use real addresses, but I have no connections to them...so then they cant populate any info on it. Then they always just say, okay everything is good.

I noticed that keeping fluent conversation is a big step to get account unlocked.

why kind of story ?

did they correlate date to your addresses?
mine seemed to really want to tie my stealth name to a address 10 years ago.

About the time the staffer was talking 10 years ago, you should have let out a GREAT scream....
'OMG, the kitchen is on fire' and hung up the phone or say whatever else you could think of saying.

Waited a couple of hours.

Collected your wits. Then called back & tried again, ensuring you had all your info to hand.
Prying that far back is rarely going to go well.

Always control the phone call, never the other way around.

Try using a rural address that is not likely to have much if any data, and is hard to zoom in on, it makes it hard for them to cross check you. They have been known to pull up the address on Google maps and ask what business is around the corner, etc. So it must be a real address that Google can find, but not easy to zoom in on or street view.

Thanks for the 10 year tip, I will have 10+ years of addresses ready next time I call them.

You should have just pretended that you dont speak english and just played stupid like they do... Make up your own language and they will get fed up and just say forget it... Worked for me a few times....

When the conversation gets boring and silly like this, you should actually hang up - wait few hours and try for different agent. Has helped before :)

well, i just did the ebay survey on this call and the call, i was not kind to her or ebay. don't think it will accomplish anything, but I feel better.

Someone from thousands of miles away in another country asking questions like this would make me want to pull out the bull horn and blow their ears into bits.

If you call you need to know things like this about the area of your account.

Google earth should be open and ready to use.

Either know as much as you can about the location OR

Change the method of making an account.

Dont have a shot in the dark with an address.

Use a PO Box or the like.

Consider using a DBA.

Out of 7 accts requiring calls this week seems US reps like to suspend accounts:
3x called phone number and had me tell them(different rep) the name of the agent was speaking to. unrestricted
1x asked to go whatismyip and verify ip unrestricted
2x(american rep) said could not be found and need fax id and utility bill
1x asked to verify address and unrestricted

If they don't understand you, then they would ask you to fax your ID. This method is very risky.

I pretend to be hard of hearing. Then I repeat back what they ask all wrong. It is quite a hoot!

I love telling them that I was born in Grenada and I put up an awesome west Indian accent.

When they ask about my previous address, I am always on the cool island of Jamaica before I moved my kids to the states for better schooling 6 months ago...

Someone told me they asked what color of truck do you own?

When they said I dont own a truck, the rep said, ok. We are good and your account will be restored.

Lately those calls have got a lot easier when I was creating stealths 6 months ago they would ask for adress. And .............. But the last 2 months they didnt even bother to ask for that verification question with all ur name address info . They just let me say back all my stealth info and reinstated me right away

it can go both ways sometimes basics and you are free about 75 percent of the time and the other 25 percent you are screwed, had them close an account because they could not find any records on me in the db and also had many times they could not find anything and they said your account is good have a nice day

Wow, US paypal sounds even worse than UK paypal. I have never had questions like that asked on the phone

Wow... reading all these comments. ALl of you should go into acting! Have no idea how you do it? I try to be super nice, tried the lived in France as a previous address etc. And I am so nervous I get f****d each time.

If you get an unwilling rep hang up and call back.

Have all your ducks lined up and have an answer for each question.

Once you master it they will be the one being nervous because you answered their question before they completed the sentence.

Next thing you know poor ebay rep is waving this.
