Default Old ebay account

We just log into an old ebay account. (new computer account with different IP address now deleted) WOW ebay say we owe over $1,000. We can't find anywhere on ebay to see why this is so high. Does ebay charge interest on outstanding balances? Should I just drop this account?

I dont think so, the fees only increase when they pass it on to a debt collector (in the Uk) but on ebay the fees have always remained the same

You might be able to make a deal with them to settle the debt for less than the full amount, especially if a lot of the balance due is interest or penalties.

But don't expect to get the account back. At least not as a seller account. eBay reps will ALWAYS tell you that if you pay the fees, all is forgiven and you can go back to using your account the way you did before. So, you pay the fees, your account gets restored and then 3 days later you are banned again.

I am not in favor of people not paying their legitimate bills, but I can see why you might want to just forget about the account. Because if you are thinking of reviving it as a seller account, it is most likely not happening. But it also never hurts to request an itemization of the charges. Just be sure to get it in a PDF file. Because if you give them your address or phone number, you will get an avalanche of collection calls and letters.

Can you not see the email history for that ebay account? You may have the collection notices in there which will show why your balance is what it is..

My friend allowed her son to use her ebay account to list some stuff. He was using all the seller tools that run up the listing fees. Her bill was over $500 and he stopped using the account. They called ebay and they negotiated with them to lower it to $150. This was at the time that ebay was being criticized for all of the hidden fees when using some of the seller fees.
Try calling them, they might negotiate with you.
