Using a Vistor Counter?

I honestly didn't even realize you could add one of these to your listing. I guess I had just overlooked these over the past 4 or so years. Anyone think there is a difference adding these to your listing?

Re: Using a Vistor Counter?

I like it when im searching for new lines.

It helps me check competitors traffic to see wjat demand there is for the product.

I don't do counters, I don't need my competition knowing how many people are checking out my items. I also so most of my sales private.

I can see it being useful if you are selling a newer product and you wanted to gauge how much interest there is out there for it.

You can then use that visitor counter, along w/ amount of Watchers, to get a better understanding of how quickly (or how long) your inventory will sell out if priced competitively.

Re: Using a Vistor Counter?

I like to use the visitor counter. I believe there is a level of psych happening to some eBay bidders.

I know since I joined eBay back in 1999 just as a buyer, I watched the counter closely on something I really wanted to win to see if anyone else was checking in on the auction in the final minutes. No additional viewers told me I don't have much competition so I most likely won't get sniped. When the counter continued to increase every minute I knew there were sharks out there that were going to try to bump me out in the final second so I better increase my maximum bid amount or get prepared to snip with a higher bid if I really want to win.

Now as a seller my philosophy is let the prospective bidders see how busy the particular auction ending soon is and it may just prompt one or more to place higher bids and more frequent bids in the final few minutes versus watching an auction that has no counter at all thus providing no incentive to raise their highest bid amount or place another bid in the final few seconds.

To each their own.:thumb:

Awesome point. Have not been on eBay that long. But I do remember when I first got on as a buyer in 03-04. In general visitor counters were something that people looked at. I do believe that I will begin using the counter on many of my items again. Thanks again for the advice. I think you are right on point!

vetman90, I would love to you see you on the board lots. It is rare to find someone who has seen the transition in eBay go back that far. In my experience members that have been around that long have a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I don't see why one would be important, often if it is a multi sale people will look at how many items you have had, maybe look at your feedback as well

Do tell what kind of counters do you use?
