School IP Addresses

I am currently taking one summer class up at my university, and I was wondering what the possible implications would be if I used their computers, say in the library, for my stealth accounts. I am not sure if the computers are set up to allow the command prompt so I can switch IP's between accounts, but I could bring a USB drive with CCleaner on it to wipe the system between logins.

Whataya think?

Ide be hesitant myself...

you cant change their ip

Red X 06-07-2011 07:36 AM

Don't do it, if the administrator catches you tampering with their system you'll lose your privileges.

dammitttt, alright fine.

Basically, on the WiFi every time I log out and login I get a new IP address, no tampering required. I think you guys might be right about the ethernet thing though.

@Giardino, sorry if I sound odd here but how do you change the IP with command prompt instead of physically powering down the modem?

Bad idea for sure.

Get your own mobile broadband connection and laptop or something.

Sorry to bump an old topic but it's better than making a new thread.

I am also wondering the same thing. I'm not convinced by the replies to this thread that it's a bad idea to use a school computer to access eBay, but I'm not convinced that it's a good idea either.

I'm about to set up a stealth account and have been planning to use university computers to access it. I don't want to use my home network to access eBay because there are other members of the household with legitimate non-banned eBay accounts and I don't want to risk the possibility of linking them to my banned account.

First of all, doesn't just the rightmost subnet of the IP address need to be different in order for the IP address to be considered different in the eyes of eBay? So for example, wouldn't 255.255.255.1 and 255.255.255.2 be considered different? It is my understanding that not all computers in an entire university have the same IP address. Second of all, many people will be using the university network to login under their own accounts to eBay on a regular basis, so I wouldn't think it would be suspicious to use a university computer for a stealth account.

Correct me if I'm wrong or tell me if I'm correct. :)

Bump. Are school computers good to use?

Pringles 12-01-2011 10:09 AM

Not going to work as people have mentioned, you cant change the Ip address and more than likely you will be linked to another suspended user

sacka_man 12-01-2011 03:44 PM

I could have sworn that I tested this before and the IP addresses on the computers were different. Only the rightmost bit of the IP was different, but they were still different.
