Apparently... google doesn't provide your outgoing IP address.. so you can reply to ebay messages via gmail web mail w/o being traced

Anyone else know this? Or did i just finally figure it out for myself?

Does this still work in the US? I tried it once a few months back and got a return email that it was undeliverable.

I've been looking around for answers to this but I never get a clear, definite answer..I've seen threads about this but they were from 2-3 years ago and things definitely could have changed since then. Hopefully someone can come in here and clear things up.

Personally, what I want to do is always use G-Mail for the e-mail attached to my eBay acct..Then, I'd like to put them all together with a mail app like Thunderbird so you can receive all e-mails in one place. Then whenever I get a question/message, just reply to that e-mail and supposedy it's supposed to reach the person just like a regular eBay message would - but without having to actually log in & without revealing your IP. (I think you have to block images or something from showing as well?) Anyway, this would be so much better than the hassle of logging in-between user accounts & eBay accounts on our computer.

yes it would also be nice if we didn't have to pay taxes or go the way of the stealth. the only way around this is to use something such as pushauction. think of this as a business and if you want something to be easier in this world, it costs $$$$

I'm sure if this is true. I tried replying to an eBay message using Gmail's "reply" button and got a mail daemon message.

^^^^^^^^That's because when they send you the message on eBay they have to checkmark share the email option.

I wonder if the same rule of IP sharing applies when using a 3rd party email application, or just through the Gmail web access.

a 3rd party email app will give away the IP of your cell/home network

I'm going to test this with a new account replying to a message via gmail using a banned IP.

That's what I figured, so it's hit or miss replying via Gmail.

Sorry to revive this but stumbled on it and there seems to be various thoughts as to whether replying directly to an ebay message from gmail is safe. I have tried this for a couple weeks now and gmail does not expose your IP. On the other hand Yahoo mail definitely exposes your IP so do not try direct replying with that app.

I've replied to thousands of gmail emails without switching ip's for years. I don't think it's ever caused me problems. I usually have a good idea of what has caused any problems that I've encountered and I don't think gmail has ever been a problem.
