| | | ebanned | 07-09-2013 03:43 PM | Oh No - Dongle Not Changed - IP Address Used On Different Accounts! First blunder....
On my stealth account, with my wireless dongle. Logged off, changed user and forgot to change the dongle. It kept the same IP address and I logged into a legit ebay account.
How bad is this? I know IP addresses change, but when so soon does their systems pick it up?
A note to all stealthers... Set up passwords with user accounts to something like "Change Dongle" or "Check IP". This will limit mistakes. I normally always check IP addresses, but for some reason I didnt this time, it must be the heat affecting me.
Any comments would be appreciated. |

| Sandy D | 07-09-2013 03:52 PM | Wow.
Just might get lucky and nothing happen.
I always double check my IP and use an excel spreadsheet.
Make it a habit of using the spreadsheet so you will be forced to check to see if you have used that ip or not. |
| ebanned | 07-09-2013 03:58 PM | Im currently using word to log all ip addresses on my first stealth. I use my home IP for the legit account. I check it everytime, I simply logged into another user and someone was shouting me in the next room, and I didnt change dongles. I normally even check my static home IP address just in case...
A complete blunder, so fingers crossed! I cant make any more mistakes like that, hence new passwords on user accounts. |
If it's only happened 1 time then you might be safe. I would say that if you don't limited within 1 week you should be fine.
Are you logging your IP's? Checking IP's? |
| ebanned | 07-09-2013 04:44 PM | So far ive logged all the IPs from my first stealth, i still need to look at the excel method and add all the logged IPs to an excel file when I start more Stealths. Im currently logging them with word.
With the legit account I use my home static IP but since starting stealth I have even checked the IP on that just in case... Unfortunately I messed up on this occasion.
To be fair with the legit account it has been logged with loads of different IP addresses, including accounts which have been banned. But so far ive never had a problem. This was before I even knew about Stealth, so in my diffence I didnt know any better.
Ill just have to wait for a bit... Im just worried about the new IP address being logged with the legit account, minutes after it was used with a stealth account. |
1 Attachment(s) Yeah, it can be stressful but it does happen. Using the Excel method is probably the best way. I am attaching the excel format I use, there are others with their own methods...whichever you go with, just gotta make it a life/death thing. |
| Dmshark25 | 07-10-2013 01:56 AM | I can't say for sure but especially in the beginning of when I started stealth I had maybe 2-3 mistakes and 6 months later nothing happened.
The important thing to always learn from your mistakes , take things slow , and stealth operating will come easier
And hopefully you will be ok |

One thing I havent done is log dates, ive only logged the IP addresses ive used so far, theres about 50 of them. Would you add these to a columb of used IP addresses and then start fresh with stealth user name columns?
Will go over james tip thread tonight and get this excel thing rolling.
Ive also added and changed passwords to my user accounts so I dont make this mistake again. Also another tip I read was to have a MY IP site as your home page, which ill now be doing. |
One time is unlikely to compromise your accounts. Make sure not to repeat. the My IP homepage is a GOOD action. Passwords changing is not essential but what's done is done |

Any comments would be appreciated. | Just stick a post-it note with your check list of events that you must do for every time you switch acc's and stick to it like a robot.
If its mentally logged we do make mistakes if its visual on paper we see clearly where we are in the process. |
| jeffweico | 07-20-2013 03:45 AM | Many times, accounts can survive this, at least initially. I do not believe eBay has a program running to automatically ban accounts logging in with the same IP address.
You have to remember that many people log in with an IP that is Dynamic, meaning that it can be shared - over time, with other users. For example, when I turn off my cable modem, the old IP is released and a new IP takes its place. That old IP is NOT thrown away, it is assigned to someone else.
When it becomes a problem is if one of your accounts gets shut down. eBay then starts looking for other seller accounts that share the same characteristics. If they find the accounts that logged on with the same IP and there are other similarities, THEN the accounts are in danger. Even then, it is not a GUARANTEED shut down, but it happens.
I would suggest NOT using things like "Change IP" or "Switch Dongle" as a password. Changing the IP between accounts should just be part of the routine. Put a sign on your PC if necessary. Use the spreadsheets other members have provided. Do what you have to do.
If this happened to me, I would continue with these accounts as if nothing had happened. I would also create a few more stealth accounts as backups JUST IN CASE the accounts DO get shut down. I would also avoid listing the same items on different accounts. Think about it. The odds of two seller accounts using the same IP are actually pretty good since IP's are dynamically assigned (in most cases). However, the odds drop quickly when you consider two seller accounts using the same IP address AND selling the same items. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 02:22 PM. | |
