I am just going through the article.
We shouldn't be worried coz it says
"Now instead of serving images directly from external servers, Google will filter everything through its own secure proxy servers. That means every time you view an image in Gmail from now on, it’ll be hosted by Google which means your data won’t go to third parties and you won’t accidentally load any code from remote sites. ."

Still anyone who doesn't want to take risk can disable the image display content by doing the following..
"If you’d like to disable images, you can go into your Gmail settings and select the option to “ask before displaying external content.”"

Follow this link

Recommendation has always been to disable images and beacons - good update though sagkash2

You will just have to ensure that 'per-message authorization' setting is active in gmail

Yeah, I was prompted when I logged in earlier and just changed the settings to disallow it. It's simple enough.

Thank you sagkash2 very nice. I don't understand when you say, "anyone who doesn't want to take a risk."? I don't see any risk if they are not sharing information?

Its because , some people take extra precaution , they do not want to risk at all though thats not gonna happen.
For such people I said , if anyone doesnt wana risk , change the gmail settings.

I use thunderbird and I forward all my emails to one gmail account which has filters enabled to different folders for each account. I have disabled all images and links, so even if i accidentally click on something, it does nothing!

It prompts you when this happens, so you go to "settings" and uncheck the option.

Happened on a few accounts already.

Be really careful until they get this completed.

Seems they are toying with changes as usual.

Google has become a mess in my opinion. Too much info sucking coming out of gmail anymore.

Now popups asking if you use for personal, business etc.

I just slipped up, I read this thread recently but didnt notice it was by default.

Some images popped up in my face, I thought to myself "There's no way I changed the settings"

It's funny how Google says "Your emails are now safer, images will automatically appear in your emails"

Safe, my as*!

Google are doing lots of dodgy stuff these days, prompting you for phone numbers all the time, alternate email addresses, being automatically signed in to Chrome and Youtube when logged into your gmail account, multiple account log in

All in the name of security and convenience

Yeah sure.

After you change the settings to not display images, make sure you log out and log back in, for the changes to take effect.
