Newbie needs help with IP address

I am unable to change my IP address. ISP is ATT.net and router is an Arris NVG510. When I type my default gateway into address bar the router page does appear but does not ask for password. There is a tab that asks for device code and that code is clearly marked on router. When I type that number it is accepted and takes to screen to change access code. I have tried accepting default code and changing new code but it seems to be in a loop and takes me back to screen again for asking for access code.

I have unplugged everything overnight and ISP didn't change.

I appreciate all help I can get.

Sounds like you have a static IP address.

It would be worth looking at a dongle or phone tethering :thumb:

I read through the posts and a few others. It seems like AT&T U verse is not stealth friendly. Unfortunately I live in a rural area with only local cable companies that are slow as molasses. I'm going to try the AT&T dongle unless someone suggests otherwise. I'm concerned about that because even my AT&T signal only has one bar most of the time. Would a signal booster interfere with stealthing?

I had Uverse years ago before I started stealth. I thought they had dynamic IPs but I could be wrong. One thing to try - go to your network connection details (Control Panel -> Network And Internet -> Network Connections -> right click on your ethernet connection -> click on status -> click on details) and see when it says the lease will expire. Right before that is scheduled to happen, disconnect your modem/router and leave it off for a while. Ideally your ISP would then assign your current IP to another customer, and you would get a new IP when you reconnect.

Before going with an ATT dongle, I would at least check to see the coverage maps of the other major providers by going to their website (Tmobile, Verizon, etc) and see if their service is a bit better than ATT's. Also check on pricing as well. Some are much more expensive than others.

A signal booster is fine to use. I don't know what the walls in my house are made of, but it's near impossible to get decent cell reception here, so I feel your pain about the one bar thing. I bought a Verizon 4G hotspot which had a port for an antenna, got an external antenna from Amazon, and now I have 2-3 bars and 4G LTE when previously I struggled to get only 1 bar.

Do you use a mobile phone? With data? You can use it to tether as well

I suggest a pre paid data line. Go for a CDMA network.
