Do i really need to log my I.P. Address
 

im prepared to get shot down for my title but I need to know how the ip address work.
Ive had two stealth accounts for 18 months, one using a dongle another tethering a phone, both of which are fine, i started logging ip address but soon gave up, as it seemed pointless as they would never be the same.
Can someone explain why I need to log them, is it just for people who use the same router/dongle/phone for all their accounts and log in to them one after another?
Also is there not a risk (small) of using IP address by another banned/stealth user?
I am wanting to make some back ups, i don't mind buying new dongles but is this necessary?

It's a personal preference. For me I have a spreadsheet that checks if I there's a repeat on the IP address log then it would warn me and highlight it. I get lazy sometimes and I don't log it. As long as you have a huge pool of IPs, you should be good for a while but there's still a small chance that ebay/paypal can be anal and look for a link. I'd say 1% of that happening. I for one have never been suspended just for IPs. They need more than IPs to suspend your account. If you have a dongle or tether, you are good, just worry about the cookie sharing that's it.

IP addresses do repeat, the more accounts you have the more repeats you will get.

It takes 10 seconds to log an IP and its so easy to do why risk not doing it?

Why risk 18 months of work on stealth accounts to save 5 seconds of noting an ip in excel? Not worth it, always should note. If you really don't want to note them, then get a static ip for each stealth account.

OP, you don't need multiple dongles if your Internet provider is the same. Just reset the dongle and write down the IP.

There is an excel sheet on the forum for you to use as well - nice tool :)

Ok thanks, but what am I looking for repeats for?

Am I looking for I.P. addresss I have used on other accounts?

My dongle gives me a pool from 250 approx ending 001 to 249 and Im always going to get a repeat like this.

So your only managing 2 accounts and one is using a dongle and one is using tethering? Are they on the same internet provider?

Cause if they are then its possible to get same ip on both but if there not then not possible.

IP addresses repeat on different networks as well!

I have BT internet as home internet and I have picked up same IP addresses on my dongle as well from a completely different provider.

Yes record ALL IPs.

Cmon man... Don't get comfortable! just because it's been smooth sailing for past 18 months doesn't mean you should start to question the basics.

Yes two different providers.

OK so if I have used it before on the same account as I have been doing that is fine.

Does the excel spreadsheet cross reference all accounts or do I need to check them against each account individually?

i never log my ips. i just check to make sure each time it is different. works 99.9% of the time

I need to as I use hosting services and the ips often reappear. Just keep an excel spreadsheet and log every single one

What about the 0.1% time it does not work?

It takes 10 seconds to log an IP. Really very little time and well worth doing
