I've been on other "handmade" sites and no one comes close. |
| novemberrain1970 | 11-20-2014 11:37 AM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? Be careful with that "community" thing. Don't think it's all folksy charm and warm aw shucks folks. There are sharks plain and simple and my best advice is to keep your head down, be stealth all the way and don't make any waves. Stay off their forums. Don't draw any attention to yourself at all. |
| solefoodbk | 11-20-2014 01:25 PM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? I dont "need" to do stealth... Wait are their listing limits like eBay? Ugh
Haha point taken about the "community" thing. Thats how they promote themselves, I know that doesn't mean anything...
I've had a general idea about selling on there, and that its usually used for only custom products. How about the bots things like that.
Is security compared to eBay when you first open a account (3month probation)...things like this? |

| ovidiu | 11-20-2014 05:20 PM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? I strongly recommend opening a stealth account first on etsy, so you get the lay of the land and become comfortable with their rules and how they work. Once you successfully run a stealth account, go ahead and open in your real name for direct checkout. Direct Checkout is a once chance deal; once you get booted, there is no way to get back on under your real name. |
| Gladiator | 11-21-2014 12:50 AM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? Some seller claimed to use their EIN in lieu of the SSN when filling out for DC, but I tried it earlier in the week with the info and it did not work. So, stick with Paypal. While it may lose sells in some fields (I have witnessed it first hand) it isn't enough to go through the trouble of losing and burning SSNs. |
| ovidiu | 11-21-2014 12:59 AM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? Of course EIN does not work. You are personally signing up for a merchant account (that's what DC is) and they do a records check, same as if you buy a car. |

Didn't work, but at least I found out for myself. :croc: |

| ovidiu | 11-22-2014 12:57 AM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? Try to email them once it fails and ask if you can sign up as a company (LLC), but I sincerely doubt it. Maybe those members were interchanging the terms without realizing it. |
| novemberrain1970 | 11-22-2014 07:09 AM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? When I sold there in my particular niche I never seemed to lose anything by not doing DC and the reason I didn't was that my businesses on there were huge (by my standards anyway) and I didn't want to wait for their deposits from DC. My PP is non-stealth and I have the PP debit card so buying supplies and ordering (and we had to order SOMETHING every day to keep that beast rolling) was a snap and I preferred receiving payments via PP where there was instant access. Only downside was no Et.sy gift cards can be taken but I only ever had 3 or 4 people even ask about using them and when I said no they ordered anyway with a credit card via PP. |
| solefoodbk | 11-22-2014 01:20 PM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? Great info guys. I plan on creating a stealth account early next year. Is the traffic pretty good? I've tried crappy sites like ebids ...non have compared to eBay which is why we all flock to them sadly.
I would LOVE to have another source of income like ETSY. Thanks everyone :) |
| novemberrain1970 | 11-22-2014 01:21 PM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? I am not on there anymore so I can't speak to current traffic. It was good when I was though. |

Just different business ventures??
Thanks!! :bounce:
Do you have any opinion on selling clothes on Amazon?? I'm assuming its not the best platform for clothes...but could be wrong. |
| unkown5454 | 11-22-2014 02:40 PM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? Ha, I think you need to read up more on Et.sy. Comparing them to ebids is hilarious.
If you know what you're doing and you have good products, you could actually survive and make a living on Et.sy alone. |
| novemberrain1970 | 11-22-2014 03:25 PM | Re: How Does Etsy Work? I left because I got tired of the politics and BS. I made a living on there for a few years but after being the subject of a witchhunt there it lost its glimmer for me. I don't know much about AZ really sorry but there is a ton of info out there on them and a whole section about them here. |

I had already moved on to other things though and honestly the customers can be as exhausting as the admins (depending on your niche.) It's like a lot of them have never ordered from the internet before.
I may go back someday but not in the niche I was selling in before. No how, no way. |

Nothing kills me more than when someone says "Oh, I've never ordered off Etsy before so I didn't know how it worked." It's not a difficult thing to grasp but some are either willfully ignorant or just paranoid beyond belief. |
