Do you guys access the forum primarily with mobile or desktop?

While there is a mobile version for the forum, it's not very good. And the options for a better mobile version just isn't there without updating the forum platform (which I plan to do).

I'm curious to know how many people use the forum on their mobile device and how it's working out for you.

Personally I switch to the default template while on my phone and I'm able to post on the forum/chat without any issues. However the mobile version of the forum is pretty much worthless.

Are you on your phone now?

Re: Do you guys access the forum primarily with mobile or desktop?

I use my phone a lot and always select the Default Template, which is strictly done when on my iPhone only. When I use my iPad the regular template is automatically shown so I don't have to change it.

The mobile/default way is fine for me. I am not a fan of most mobile website looks anyway, so for my part it isn't a big deal.

I would suspect most people are on their phones when accessing the forum.. at least that's what analytics is telling me.

99% on my desktop - sometimes on the phone if travelling but the tiny screen and typing = annoying. I haven't tried that aspkin forum app

I access from both desktop and phone. When on mobile I request the desktop view as I'm not too keen on the mobile version.

Desktop view on the rare occasion I do.

However I used to use tapatalk but found it problematic. Not sure if its down to the app itself, or compatibility with the forum/version its running.

Rarely and that was in the past - I'm driving too much these days (and a bit fast sadly) and the small screen is not worth the risk of staring, typing, accident, etc

Great to hear.

Had to attend a MVA last night

Tradie driving home and he took an incoming phone call 30 seconds before a bend in the road.

Perfect driving conditions yet he totalled his set ofwheels.

I use both. Desktop at home and phone on the go.
When I use my phone I default to desktop version and just zoom in.

I use my desktop as I keep my business of ebay on my desktop so anything related to ebay or stealth I keep all on one.

Laptop when at home

iPhone on the go. I bought an iPad recently though as seeing things on the mobile (this forum as well as other internet forums and websites) was just too much of a PITA and I couldn't really get much done

Its much better on the iPad though

When I did use my phone I always set the forum to desktop mode.

Re: Do you guys access the forum primarily with mobile or desktop?

Desktop only. Please do not change the forums format to a goofy "modern" blocky design to cater to mobile/tablets. It makes things more tedious and difficult when trying to accomplish real tasks on a desktop.

A lot of sites with good practical designs that should not be changed do to adopt to "mobile" which makes their site functionality retarded for real tasks. I wish all sites still looked had the early 2000's design. So much more neat, practical and to the point.

Lol, the thing is most people use mobile these days. And more and more don't even have desktop anymore. So it's either cater to them or lose them all together. It's best to bring them onboard, no?

I agree with you.

I'm on my iPad Pro or Phone for almost all leisure/reading/research. I only use my iMac and Mac Pro for work, so that's the only time I visit while on my desktop.

Mobile markets/app/etc have taken over, so it'd be silly not to make the website more accessible to those clients.

Windows laptop and ipad :)

Both currently work fine, and operate almost identically. Makes it easy. :)

Re: Do you guys access the forum primarily with mobile or desktop?

The best "worst" implementation to make a site "mobile friendly" is the Tangerine bank website. It feels like a yuppie CTO trying to make a name for himself hired a fresh college grad to rebrand the Tangerine site so its modern and "cutting edge" for mobile. Any Canadians here who uses it will know what I am talking about.

They turned a very logical site to a disaster zone. Windows and popup notifications taking up half the screen, giant buttons and silly slidey tabs and a bunch of random garbage and useless pie charts blended in to fill empty space. What a mess. If it aint broken dont fix it.

Re: Do you guys access the forum primarily with mobile or desktop?

^^Exactly the same thing happened to Wells Fargo's website last year. It used to be the most productive and easiest to navigate online banking interface out of all the banks I work with. After their "mobile friendly" update the website feels like some kind of app I would install for my daughter on her tablet.

I guess WF and Tangerine hired the same developer. I miss the old internet too. :(

On my iphone 7, I do not like the mobile site. I struggle with some aspects so I rarely use it. Maybe I need to play with a setting after reading many people like the mobile site.
