| futbolplayer | 08-10-2019 06:17 AM | Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? I have managed to win this amount, combined live and online winnings within the last couple years playing part-time. My win rate is only getting better and I am starting to play higher stakes. Is this a lot of money to win from the game? Should I consider pursuing the game further even though I don’t find it enjoyable and view it as a waste of my time? |

Its down to how long that has taken and how much work it was. If its in a week, thats good. If its taken 5 years thats also fine, but hardly enough to live on |

Steer away!! |
nickopedia | 08-10-2019 08:04 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? The amount is all relative and obviously depends on the game. If you're talking about the WSOP, 25k is almost nothing.
$200 is a standard buy-in for small stakes NL Hold'em The standard, initial buy-in for a typical $1/2 No-Limit game of Texas Hold'em poker is $200. For $1/3 No-limit, many players buy-in for $300. Although not required, the standard buy-in for any no-limit game is 100x the big blind.
Only wager what you are comfortable with. |

futbolplayer | 08-11-2019 06:04 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? $100 to 25k in 2.5 years part-time. |
JamesNorth101 | 08-11-2019 06:14 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? I don’t really understand the point of the thread if I am honest
Only you can decide if that’s good or not V the amount of work you put in |

phaz0rz | 08-11-2019 07:51 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? I would take the money and run. You say your wagers have been getting bigger and bigger so it's probably only a matter of time before you lose it all and have some mafia guy chasing after you trying to collect.
Aside from that 2.5yrs is a long time and you could have made that amount working at McDonalds without any risk.
EDIT: Or, AT LEAST, take the $25k you've made and set it aside, then start with $100 again and see if you can make $25k again. |
Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? If you don't find it enjoyable and a waste of your time....there are many other options available to do in life... |

VillieZ | 08-11-2019 05:05 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? Man, you are really good player if you win such big amount of money, but always turn on your brain during the game. It is very improtant in order not to lose everything! |

futbolplayer | 08-11-2019 09:08 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? Yes but some months I barely played. Part-time is probably an over representation. For example, last two weeks I played 20 hours and made $1400. This win rate was common during my time playing. I never officially tracked with an app or anything but this hustle has allowed me to avoid a day job and continue hustling my internet ventures. |
futbolplayer | 08-11-2019 09:09 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? Additionally, the first time I walked into a casino was 2.5 years ago, obviously my win rate today is much higher than when I started 2.5 years ago. |
futbolplayer | 08-11-2019 09:12 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? I played low stakes during this time 1/2NL live and 50NL online. Today I play 2/5NL live and 100NL online. I will keep the forum updated |
futbolplayer | 08-11-2019 09:15 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? I’ve also walked into a casino with $200 and left with 2k multiple times |

futbolplayer | 08-12-2019 07:49 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? Torched $300 at casino day from running dry on cards and not playing my A game. Not an unusual loss for me. Was on a $1400 upswing before this. Gonna keep grinding, need about 2-3k more to get my startup off the ground. Updates will continue. Biggest downswings I’ve had have been 1.8k and 1k, which I bounced back from rather quickly. Updates will continue.. |

nickopedia | 08-13-2019 09:54 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? A very basic strategy I employ when I wager is to take a fixed percentage out of any winnings and set it aside. That money never gets touched, no matter what. What's left over I can gamble with until it's gone.
Some people think they can always overcome a loss by simply doubling their bet each time until they win it back. This is called the martingale system. This "system" is flawed simply because of the impossibility of winning over the long run, given a limit of the size of bets or a limit in the size of one's bankroll.
The bottom line is most gamblers do not exercise the most basic of money management strategies, or discipline, and that's a recipe for failure. |
ebaystealth1974 | 08-13-2019 11:31 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? Yup. My dad and uncle were big time gamblers in the 70s and 80s. So much so, that they would DRIVE from the east coast all the way to Las Vegas, just to play poker. Multiple times.
But they were very different gamblers. One of them did it the right way, allotting a certain amount and only using that. The other one had to either win it all, or lose it all. Lucky for him and his family, he made it out okay. |

futbolplayer | 08-15-2019 08:31 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? Did $+125 in 3.5 hours last night. Was at a table with a Vegas pro who I outplayed in one pot. Feels amazing to have progressed to a point where I can feel comfortable playing against very good players. Just one year ago, I remember being intimidated and uncomfortable playing against the same opponent. Hoping this is the start of an exciting journey. More update to come.. |
futbolplayer | 08-15-2019 10:15 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? My online empire wouldn’t exist without poker helping fund it. Additionally, I am documenting a journey as an attempt to add value to the forum, which is certainly a characteristic you don’t seem to posses. Truthfully, you are easily in the top 5% of disliked people on this forum. Try to add value and encouragement to other forum members, it’s a much more productive way to spend your time and make for a more enjoyable experience. |
ebaystealth1974 | 08-15-2019 10:19 AM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? I'm not gonna lie... I think you have a gambling problem. Your emotions are going to wreck you. |

I have a friend out in California that makes his living from playing poker. He's been doing it for years, and makes many times more money than I ever would. Who am I to judge him?
Of course the day may come eventually where he goes broke. We have seen that play out before. |
ebaystealth1974 | 08-15-2019 12:33 PM | Re: Is winning 25k playing poker a lot? Yeah, every gambler has big hopes. But as we all know, successful stories are few and far between. :( |
