Minimum wage in some cities is now over $16 /hour excluding tips.
Waiters are losing their jobs when the restaurants cant raise their menu price so they are closing down.
How much is minimum wage in your town?
$40 for a roast chicken,any one?
I have tried Indian Tandoori chicken, but not $40

yes,it is served by a waiter who makes $16.xx an hour.

Peking duck can go for $60-80 in some restaurants

You can get Peking duck in Chinese restaurants in China Town, for around $25-$30,I suspect they all order from the same source as it would require a special oven to roast the duck.
Also it wont be served by a chef, but your waitress.
There is also a supermarket which sells in the deli window, dont know how good they are but they also supply the restaurants.
Peking duck is really Long Island duck, some one took it to China and there they made many babies

In my early 20s I was doing $2.2MM in revenue on Amazon a year. I was in Wall St Journal. Yahoo Finance. About how what I was doing was changing things. Lectured at business schools. Now I apply to about 20 jobs a day and the only one I got was a chicken place making $9 an hour cleaning toilets. Hook me up with this $16/hr!!!!

IT is in Seatle and the restaurant is now closed and the waiter is unemployed.
I heard Chinese buffet places pay $25-$35 per station, station is one shift like 11 am to 3 pm,so a waiter would make $50-$70 plus tips if he/she work 2 shifts.
I also heard some do not pay any $$,waiter has to rely on tips, the restaurant gives you a chance to make some money, like EBAY,except it does not charge you FVF ,if there is any item not as described dispute,it is not your fault !.

then why dont you put me on ignore?
this is 'EVERYTHING ELSE',we can say anything we want, not suspension,or restriction, just tell you what happened to the restaurant which paid $16.xx an hour to its waiters.
THE REST is for reference, some restaurants do not pay by the hour, some just dont pay its waiters,it gives them a chance to make some tips.
Cant imagine any one who sold $2.2 millions worth of goods have a hard time understanding business 101?
BTW,you must have made some money selling 2.2 M of goods, did you stash some away?

Here is another piece of headache for you-
A 50ish woman from China worked at a Chinese buffet restaurant in Florida,a popular place for locals ,she worked for free and rely on tips.
A party chowed down and left no tips, she chased after them to the parking lot and screamed "Dont come back,Dont you ever come back !"
She was fired !

A local French restaurant offers a Sunday deal-complete dinner with salad, soup, entree, desert for 2 at a good price, figures customers will leave a good tip.
Later they amended the policy by adding a 10% surcharge as most customers chow down and leave either no tip or small tip !
Need aspirins,go to 99cents store, they sell them for 99 cents only

Tips - while considered respectful - are not obligatory.

If you get a freshly slaughtered chicken ,say organic,it would cost you $13 in a Vietnamese supermarket here, you add overhead,in an upscale restaurant ,you could ask $40 when it is prepared right.
Those rotisserie chicken you see in the supermarket are not just smaller, but close to expiration or reached expiration date, why do you think they can sell so cheap.

Wouldn't this be considered illegal? I do understand that in some states, you can pay the waiter less than min wage because of tips. but are they allowed to pay 0?

I dont know if it is illegal, thats between employer and employee.
I always wonder how some of these restaurants survive if they pay their waiters hourly, say even at $7.95 an hour and there are no diners for one hour,or how many diners do you need to cover wage and food and overhead?
Back in 2008,I know some restaurants pay no wage,it gives you a chance to earn some tips, for some folks who are unemployed or not employable, making $10-$20 a day aint back .
Better than staying home and watch TV
But paying your waiters per station $25-$35 is common with buffet restaurants
