Default Voice Mail

Having a voice mail box was really cool way back when nobody felt comfortable leaving a message. Back when people would call, and when I didn't answer, they'd just hang up. I had a 22 pound cell phone in a bag with a strap and a voice mail box, yay me! I was 'cool' and they weren't.

Lately (the last decade maybe decade and a half), people seem comfortable with the whole thing. Even my grandma says she left me a message one time!

Now, when I don't answer the phone, they often leave a message. This causes my phone to dance and prance and jingle and chime and bite me on the ankle trying to let me know that somebody wants to annoy me in ways they were unable to back in the 70's.

Anymore, I just don't know what to do...

That came through in a very humorous but surely unintended way...

hate phones and messages too, I dont give out my cellphone number it is purely for emergencies. I had to give my cellphone to a directory for an organization I belong to, and I gave the number deliberately wrong so they wouldnt call me to yabber about their boring lives...or more importantly ask for something...

I give mine out. I just never answer it or even listen to the voicemail. Ever. But people leave me messages after I tell them not to bother. So the phone continually wants to notify me...

Someday I'll get wise and become a hermit luddite. Maybe buy me a loincloth, climb a mountain, and starve to death handing out vague answers to monumental questions.

I hate "moblie" - "cell" phones and usually hate to give out my number . . . so that some dickhead can call me, just when they feel like.

What is it with all the websites that ask for your phone number when signing up for something or other. I just hate this . . . and I know damn well THEY are never going to call but they want my number.

Used properly a phone is great for communication . . . but they quickly become a pain in the "***" when the idiots and dickheads get a hold of them.

Be seeing you.

Yep. I figure I bought the phone, it's mine, I'll use it in the manner which suits me best. And to be clear, I am the one who decides what suits me best.

If and when somebody wants me leashed to a phone and to answer on their schedule - buy me a phone and give me a salary with benefits and a 401k.
