Hamburger patty

here is the question-
1 lb of hamburger patty (sirloin) is $7.95,there are 4 patties in the package.
1 lb of ground beef (sirloin) for $6.99.
why the difference?
If I buy the ground beef,I can make 4 patties myself,but somehow it is not the same?it does not taste as good and the shape is not firm?

Never mind,I found out how to shape the patty ,comes out fine.

they probably spank them a few times before packaging them up

I think they use machine to do so,but thanks for your comment.
I did it myself and learn I should make the edge thicker and center part thinner
