I was just wondering what do you think of living abroad. I have been thinking for a long time how is it like to live abroad and not been able to speak the language. What do you think?

We will miss our STarbuck coffee,AMZN prime free shipping,Netflix streaming,low Walmart prices and 1-800 phone calls ,we are cheapskates who want to pay little and get a lot in return.
This is not going to happen in most countries !

There are many places OP can move to ,as she/he speaks not just English,but Canadian,Scottish,Irish,Australian,New Zealand,.
In Singapore,it is either Chinese,English or Indian(Tamil,Hindu) ?
English is also a second language in some countries such as China,Philippines.
I suspect Argentinians speak Good English as they have stashed away mucho dollars in cookie jars,pantry,basement,safe,shoe boxes,how did they manage to find these dollars,by SPEAKING ENGLISH TO THE American tourists!
And lets not forget India,they speak English very well

But one must adjust to local customs ,there are reasons why standard and cost of living are both lower.

we pay higher taxes,there is fed tax,state and city income tax and sales tax.
if you own stock,whch pays a dividend,there is double taxation,the company pays tax and then pass on to you and you pay tax again.
there is also property tax.
If OP is serious about moving to another country,go to Youtube,I have watched people posting how they move to mid size town in Mexico,or Istanbul,Portugal,Costa Rico.

move to a spanish speaking country , spanish is easy to learn

I wouldn't ask the average Aspkin member, many of them are North Americans who have barely left their own state before. Many of them are so consumerist that they would cry because they are missing their gadgets and devices back home, and the fact that they won't be using their subscription to dunkin doughnuts

US cost of living is not related to high standard of living , it is not high in the US anymore but the cost is A LOT bigger than when it was high

it is simple ripoff with overpriced real estate , healthcare , taxes and much more. people are getting poorer and the same time being flooded with crime , drugs and illegal immigrants

I think that the most important thing when we go to another country is to try to learn the language, with movies and day-to-day shopping or living a normal life.
The people of the country where you move to if they hear you speak their language, sometimes a little badly but they will understand that you want to learn it and they will pay attention to you and maybe help you,
we should never stop learning things and languages

Living abroad can be a really interesting experience. It lets you see the world differently and learn new things about yourself and other cultures.

Not speaking the language makes it harder, for sure. Simple things become difficult, and you might feel frustrated or isolated sometimes. But it can also push you to learn and grow, and you might connect with people in unexpected ways. Some people find it exciting, others find it too challenging. It really depends on your personality and how well you handle new situations.

Those who move/retire happily in a foreign country usually have done their research like visiting the place or even purchase a second home there .
Some countries even have a program,eg Malaysia has one called Malaysia your second home,make sure you have health care for the first year ,and bring $$$ .
Healthcare is one issue for Americans,medicare would not cover them outside US.
Some countries have a large expat population-Thailand,Mexico,Malaysia.
If you are in Brazil,have you considered Portugal,you would not have a language problem and the standard of living is cheap.
Just curious,have any one ever considered moving to Switzerland ?

This is so true. When I lived abroad and was learning to speak the local language, the people of the country were always super helpful and I think appreciated my attempts (bad ones mostly) to speak to them in their language.

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit myself. Perennially Latin America. My best friend moved there several years ago. Does work remotely and lives very comfortably due to the difference on cost of living. Some 20 years ago I lived abroad as well. If you’re okay with differences in cultures and difficulty (at first) with communicating in general, and willing to learn the language, you would probably be okay. Most countries have expats who have formed groups to get together regularly and that can be helpful as well.
