going to restaurant is always a treat,may be you just dont hang around with the right people.
I did not realise the restaurant business margin is so low 3-4%?
I can see menu price minus cost of material = MARGIN is 70% in many cases,so it must be the overhead-labor and rent/utilities.
rent in popular places have gone up a lot.

Morning chuckles phaz :lol: - restaurant margin has always been tight...the use of cc and fee's charge by cc companies make it worse.

Funny thing is that they make more on the sale of drinks actually ...in most circumstances

But getting a liquor license is expensive,also in some neighborhood,diners do not drink or get desert,coffee.
But they tip generously.

Long ago,a couple I know,hubby is sick but both love to eat out.
Money is tight and the wife said promise me,when we eat out,you order cheap wine.
He said Yes,but he ordered $15 instead of $5 wine,he figured he is dying,why not !

Unless it's a terminal illness, seems kinda reckless to go out buying wine at sit down restaurants when the family's finances are already strained by medical expenses. :bird:

Folks enjoy a glass of wine to go with their meals.
People get tired of eating home cook meal and like to be pampered in a restaurant.
Women love to eat out in restaurant so they dont have to COOK !
Wine constains alcohol,so alcoholics welcome wine when hard liquor is not available.
Joan Kennedy became an alcoholic,when they locked her up iin a house with no alcohol,she managed to find bottle of nail polish remover and drank it/

So the sick man was an alcoholic at the time of his illness?
For their children's sake, I hope he bought some life insurance.

No,he is not an alcoholic.
Alcoholic prefers hard liquor ,wine is too tame but better than nothing.

Hah, I guess that's true. I've met people who let beer drinking get out of hand though.

The problem with beer is that it is like water,in the summer,a beer drinker will keep drinking ,a few cans is common.
Funny,this summer is hotter than usual but I have yet to see anyone buying beer in supermarket,maybe I am not paying attention?
same with wine?

I was at Kroger yesterday and it has marked down its wine,it also modified its store sales forcast for 2027 from 2-3% to 0.02-0.08 % .
This inflation situation must be pretty bad if folks are cutting back so much on grocery.

Beer is selling strong in the south, for sure. The fad of grocery stores having 50 different craft beers has been dying down - I assume because people aren't willing to pay $14 for a 6 pack. A few years ago it would cost $9.99 for a sixer of a craft brewery IPA.
