I don't like riding in vehicles that I'm not driving but the used car industry isn't all that dangerous. Spray some Lysol or something if you're afraid of contagious blood cancer and/or livestock.

Oh my bad, I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you meant you're against buying used cars because of germs.
I've never used lyft or uber but I hear it's the norm now among younger people. A large portion of Gen Z aren't even interested in getting drivers licenses. It's strange.

On the internet. In the 80's half of all 16 year olds had a license. In the 2020's it's fallen to ~25%.
Cost is probably a small factor but I think a bigger one is technology. Kids stay inside all day now with no interest in going outside, much less traveling.

The Chinese government once said kids coming home from school spent too much time in front of a PC or machine playing games, they are becoming too? and who is going to defend the country some day,so it wants to cut back on the hours they can spend in front of a machine !
The same can be said about us,if we dont know the internal of an auto,do not drive or fill gas and change oil,and one day the government need to call on some of us,we dont know how to operate a machine, drive a vehicle, carry sandbag?
or COOK?

I agree with that. Just look around in public. A large % of people under 25 are now pudgy and pasty white like they've never been exposed to the sun, when they should be living the most active part of their life. All anyone cares about is the next Grand Theft Auto game.
Take away the gaming console and replace it with a drill press, and the US would be doing much better as a whole.

I can see subscribing to software which helps you drive better or avoid accident, but these days you can talk, play games, listen to music, news, weather and watch film clips??
BTW,auto makers do not recommend eating in your car! while driving

The early TSLA EV buyers, many are young folks when they see their friends driving an EV,they want one too, term is 6 years, some said 8?
Then they found out tires do not last long and need to be replaced.
Even tho it does not eat gas,the city.state is charging them $25/monthly as they are not getting their share of a cut when we fill our gas tank.
btw,Autozone reported lower earnings as people save money and skip car repair

I dont remember the exact name,it is to compensate the city from the loss of revenue derived from driver filling up his gas tank. at the gas station.

Autozone problem is not EV,it is the ICE drivers saving money by not repairing, postponing or do it yourself.
EV owners have to replace their tires sooner due to the heavy batteries.
Diesel is $9 in California,we have not build any new refinery in the last 70 years??
Every time I go on the road,I see around 3 TSLAs,and I even see cybertruck.

Unpopular opinion - Trump has intentionally done everything possible to raise oil prices, because American oil fields become unprofitable if the bulk price drops too low. He was out in the open about it during his first term.
I'm glad the oil farmers are doing better but it's sort of devastating for the rest of the economy.

Mexico is worse, they dont have enough refineries,so they sell crude but buy refined fuel.
China is the one which has those what they called 'teapots??they are small refineries owned by entrepreuners which serve local markets.
Europe is worse, they dont even have crude except the North Seas,so they bought from the Russian.
But they do have coal and nuclear energy.
SE Asia is worse,India is in bad shape but at least they can come up with the money to buy,Sri Lanka does not have the fund.

I am trying to answer your question on refinery,we have not built any new refinery, neither have other nations except China .
thats why we have shortage of refined fuel.
We Americans love to travel,I am just about to leave my home so I CAN drive, drive, drive and I expect traffic will be heavy even thought it is still early
