Besides Ebay, where and how do you sell products?

own website? local store? Mail order?:focus:

cardfelon 03-06-2010 09:10 PM

Craigslist works good for me

incniu 03-06-2010 10:30 PM

Good. that one has no fee and CASH. Also depends on what products you sell.

tenggo 03-06-2010 11:28 PM

website, probably about 25% goes through it

incniu 03-08-2010 10:18 PM

Your own built site?

yeah, i just used cubecart, very easy to set up and edit, and it is free

teedon 03-11-2010 07:04 AM

Build own website is very good idea to sell stuffs,as no post rule there, you can just post whateven you want ,but you need to some ads to let people know your website and your products. It may need some skills and some experiece

wilburnet 03-11-2010 11:00 AM

I have my own online dvd store reaping big profits - its great as there's no hassle , No Ebay watching over what i do or other sellers reporting listings and no competition !! I still sell on Ebay but at a very low volume . The online shop is going great and i would advise anyone else to forget Ebay if your selling risky products and be your own boss. Opening up an online shop is much more affordable than you think

bigmac 03-11-2010 11:50 AM

Is it alot of wrk to make your own website?

incniu 03-11-2010 07:54 PM

Right. Selling on ebay is unstable and risky now.

What kind of dvds are you selling? IS it easy to attract customers to your own site?

Running a website is cheaper than paying damn ebay fees..

Amazon and Craigslist are great. If you have your own website and can market that, even better!

411guru 03-11-2010 09:00 PM

I have my own site. If you use free website making software and have some basic html skills, then its pretty easy. The hard part is getting traffic to your site. You can do organic way but it will take 6-12 months to show up decently high in a search result. What I do is google adwords and its great. But can cost alot and needs some knowledge.

GREMLIN 03-13-2010 10:18 AM

Yup google adwords can be costly especially with the click through fraud. you may want to check out the following article Google Sued For Click Fraud | WebProNews

Organic search results can be achieved much sooner then 6 - 12 months - you just need to keep at it - when you do get results then they are very rewarding.
However it does also depend on your keywords, niche and competition levels.

Why not get a seo company to work on your site - check out my thread on the buy and trade section - ive helped companies reduce there adwords cost from £8k a month to about £200 - they get more traffic and better click through rates- all because they decided to take the organic route.

teedon 03-23-2010 07:46 AM

Yes,if you have your own website and then you can post anythings you want,no rule ,no banned. Most our customers have their own website to sell dvds boxset and make much profit each month.

LOUCHIE 03-23-2010 10:03 AM

For those of you that have your own website, is there a greater risk of getting caught for selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ products?

aspkin 03-23-2010 10:12 AM

I have been preaching having your own website to sale your products for years now.

If you want a second source of income that won't disappear overnight then get your website up asap. I even made a simple guide to show a newbie how to do it: Webmaster Blueprint – Learn How to Build & Market Your Own Business Step By Step!

I started with my own website then I used eBay as another source of sales. There are plenty of ways to make sales online.. you just have to be willing to put some work into it.

Its your own site. What are you going to do, ban yourself? lol. But if the thing you are selling is against your payment processor policy, such as adult videos etc, then they could close your account, then you couldn't sell anything cuz you won't be able to collect money.

Greater risk? Not so much.. but there is still risk. It's complicated.

oge 03-23-2010 11:16 AM

Aspkin this looks great and I want to follow through on this. Is it ok to pm you if I need some help or have any questions?

Yea, a website is definately the way to go. What are some good site hosts to use? I was using Go Daddy then all of a sudden they started charging me like $60/month to host my site so I let it go.

Hostgator is the best. I use them for a number of my other websites without issues. They're hosted at 'The Planet', one of the most stable sever environments in the US. Plus they have pretty good prices.

Sent you a PM

philly387 03-23-2010 04:05 PM

I have used hostgator for a while now using the reseller product. Aspkin referred me to that site and I love it. It has only been down a couple times, but every server will have that due to upgrades or power outages.

NZT 03-24-2010 05:19 AM

Have tried Amazon and Ioffer. The problem with both of these is that sales are very slow in my opinion. Still good if you have a hot new product, they will sell faster I guess.

I found I was in effect twiddling my thumbs waiting for things to sell with Amazon & Ioffer.

I would rather shift products out as quick as possible. In some cases I am even prepared to "break even" to shift a product rather than hang onto it.

For me on ebay I can shift things the fastest.

I was curious about this too...

On topic, I use craigslist to great advantage. It works awesome if you live in a bigger city. Don't expect equal profit though from my experience everything that sells on craigslist get sold for %30-%40 cheaper than on eBay. If you're selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ however the profit margins are ridiculous anyway so you'll still be making money.

The thing is you wouldn't be able to use stealth info if you had your own website, so if somehow you got caught, you would have no way of hiding your identity.

I'm sure if you want to sell porn there are merchant accounts that allow them. If not then how are all these porn sites operating?? :)

Porn is legal.

teedon 03-25-2010 10:28 PM

aspkin,i can not agree with you any more.It is very important and very necessary to build your own websites .As long as more people know your website ,the orders will come more than you sell it on ebay. And you can do some free ads or you can even post it on feedbook .When the buyers buy your items on ebay ,you also can recommend them to visit your own websites.

teedon 03-25-2010 10:30 PM

Now we have a few customers got success in selling the products by their own websites in uk and usa now.and the sale on ebay is going down now.Too much rules there.

GREMLIN 03-26-2010 05:07 AM

I also use hostgator - TBH I think i actually found them through a thread in this forum. Been using them for over a year now and just renewed - They are certainly the best host i have used - I have used a number of hosts.

They have 24/7 online support which is great. you can always search around for vouchers also.

1 thing im a little disappointed about is that last year I signed up to a package which is called a baby crocodile package - i got a voucher which entitled me to 25% off - My server automatically renewed and i never got the discount - When i searched for voucher codes then i was able to find another 25% off.

Oh well - they are worth it anyway - with or without the discount.

Yes guys get your own websites - build your own company awareness and grow your business instead of just growing someone elses like ebay. Use ebay for sure - its worth it - we all know this - but dont miss out on getting your own site.

teedon 04-01-2010 08:11 AM

Porn is not allow to be deal here

Hercules 04-01-2010 02:20 PM

I believe that shaving is against the law, not porn.

I run a few websites, as well, including a web hosting business. I try to sell as little on ebay as possible. It takes a little longer, but the benefits are far greater. I use my merchant account and see the funds in my bank within 10 days.

GREMLIN 04-13-2010 10:58 AM

Wow - 10 days - thats a little long - I guess it depends really - If your selling products then this can be long to wait for but if its for your hosting business then it may well work out perfect .

I used to sell appliances - mainly tvs - average transaction was about £350 - now if i had to wait 10 days before i saw my money then I would be out of stock half of the time - Unless of course your loaded - which isnt the case with me.

yeah it is only 10 days now because i switched providers and i am on a 30 day "probation" period. I think google Checkout does the same thing if you are new. It is my hosting business, so I am not too worried. In 2 weeks it will be dropped to 48 hours.

sandiepiggott 04-13-2010 11:51 AM

smartyjones312 04-15-2010 03:30 PM

is there any way to accept payments via stealth accounts on my own site???

GREMLIN 04-22-2010 07:56 AM

yes - open a stealth paypal account and then use paypal to accept payments. you can use paypal payments pro or paypal express checkout, Alternatively you could add buy now buttons next to each product but dont feel this to be scalable if you had many products
