| | | | | ebay-sucks | 08-09-2008 06:36 PM | Getting on the phone with your customer can sometimes be a good idea In 13 years I have had some real goofs, this one takes the cake.
He buys 4 items from me and the phone rings off the wall, check my vm and he leaves messages that he wants to talk to me directly and has not yet decided if he wants the items he bid on unless he can talk to me in person.
His message also stated that if you want my business you must answer your phone when I call or he will consider the bids no longer valid.
I wrote him an email and told him I was not available for speak to him until tomorrow but would answer any questions he has by email as I have my laptop with me and can answer your questions.
A new voicemail came in telling me if you want your business to grow you will be available when the customer needs you and that means answering the phone when the customer calls.
He said it is a requirement of his that he speaks to sellers before paying for items he bids on.
What the heck is it with these people, he wants me to take his call on Sat eve at 6 pm, not going to happen.
And once he bid he thinks he can just not take the items he grabbed using buy it now so others would grab it and expects me to kiss his butt for 300.00 worth of items.
The demands are getting way out of line and the feedback system is what has caused this.
Anyone else get a nut like this expecting you be available 24/7 by phone? |
| ebayhateluv | 08-09-2008 06:54 PM | HI: LOL...
Yes, Ive had them.. I do have 2 College girls who can answer phones for me, and emails for diff accts once the schools go back,
So--for me, its a plus-- when the guys call in, and have a 19/20 yr old answer for them, they can usually "upsell" for me..
The girls are very sharp, they know if a guys just looking for phone **x or not..
--Maybe you need a college girl to handle your calls..:) |
| ebay-sucks | 08-09-2008 11:04 PM | Now that sounds like an idea. Only problem is the grump wouldnt know what a 19 year old college girl is if she hit him on the head!! ;) |

| divine422 | 08-10-2008 04:28 PM | I have also experienced this. Once i sold a laptop worth about $1000, got a call from this old gentlemen who was previously scammed when buying a high valued item and ebay and he wanted to speak with someone before paying. He went on telling me about Christianity, God and his medical problems. I dont know i guess i felt bad and he seemingly wanted to talk to someone...i wanted to get paid, so i didnt hang up. I ended up saying hello to his wife lol and heard how they met 30 years prior. Most random customer service call i have ever gotten. He ended the conversation asking for a senior citizen discount because he got carried away on the auction. I politely declined.
However he did refer a couple of his family members to me who were interested in buying laptops with local pickup at the time so i made a few extra sales (off ebay). |

| cktwo45 | 08-11-2008 11:35 AM | That's funny. |
| jerkyboy1 | 08-11-2008 03:50 PM | I was selling an item for $400 on a buy it now and I got a buyer out of the blue saying he was going to leave me negative feedback and file a lawsuit and call the police because he paid me for the item that he bought and I have not sent it. Well the item was like the one I was selling but the problem was the item I was selling was still active. I told him he must have had me confused with someone else. So, he sends me payment receipts, item #'s, forwarded e-mails, and all kinds of information. I look on the receipts and their all to some other seller who was not even me! It seriously took about four days to convince this guy that he was talking to the wrong seller and over 10 e-mails!!! This guy was a real idiot and he had like 200 feedback. |
| SaiJin | 08-12-2008 12:39 AM | Why not just ignore him and let him make the mistake? |

| 411guru | 08-12-2008 12:54 AM | I sell digital software downloads. I guarantee satisfaction or money back within 7 days. I had a buyer ask me, so you guarantee your stuff right? I was like yes. He said, well your crap doesn't work I want a refund. So I asked him for his paypal email so I can look up the order. (I got 50+ orders a day back then) Spent 2 hours and couldn't find it. Then he realized oh, I bought it from someone else. |

I ALWAYS ignore these troublemakers.
The probability to end up in Jail because you were selling something that somebody didnt like is like being hit by a meteorite.
Think from a lawyers perspective: if you were a lawyer, and she would come to you, what could she possibly say? "I saw this seller on ebay selling bad stuff...I wanna sue her...". Come on this is ridicolous, no lawyer in the world will embark in such an embarassing case. |
| Quasi_Mojo | 09-23-2008 02:19 AM | LOL
The old "I was in the hospital" trick, eh?
Can't they come up with something original?
Like... Well, you know, (I) got out of the house one day and climbed up on the roof, and the fire department couldn’t get (me) down, and finally (I) died of exposure… of starvation… or something? |
| 411guru | 09-23-2008 10:25 AM | So I've been selling digital items on ioffer such as ebooks etc using google adwords. I get many orders per day due to this. The more orders I get, the more I find out how stupid people are.
Example:
buyer: Hey I got the email with download link but the link doesnt work.
me: Hey I checked your link and even downloaded to check and it works.
buyer: How did you click on it?
me: Umm you can't click on it, you have to copy and paste it.
buyer: Whats copy and paste?
me: ...............
My download links expire after 3 downloads to prevent people stealing my links etc. I get this
buyer: Hey! I thought I could use this keep this ebook forever!!! If I knew I can only read it 3 times I would never buy it! I want refund.
me: The download link expires, NOT THE EBOOK!!!
buyer: Hey I can't open this file. What kinda crap are you selling I can't even open it!!!
me: Did you unzip it?
buyer: Whats unzip?
me: ...................
Now I'm not picking names, but I sell all around the world and Americans seem to be the dumbest lot when it comes to computer stuff and downloading etc. UK, Australians, and Canadians almost never ask me stupid questions like how does one copy and paste or what is zip. I don't know why this is. Are Americans really this retarded when it comes to computers??? I mean this is not writing HTML or something, its SIMPLE crap even 8 year olds know. Jezzz Sometimes I loose my temper after the 5 straight email in the day asking me what is ZIP. |
| purpleiris | 09-23-2008 11:35 AM | Yes, the majority of Americans are really that stupid.
What is that saying? "No one ever got rich from overestimating the intelligence of the American population." It goes something like that. |
| 411guru | 09-23-2008 12:05 PM | I forgot one. Hey I downloaded the ebook but I can't find it. Where did it go? I spend a good 3 hours a day answer dumb questions. After the 5th dumb one, I start to loose it.
What about these. I read them somewhere online.
A guy calls HP because his computer wouldn't start up. After 1 hour on the phone, the tech asks if it is plugged in, and it is. But it turns out that the power is out in his house.
A guy calls IBM about a problem with his mouse. He says that the pointer can't go right anymore than a little. When asked what the problem was, he says there was not enough room on his mousepad to move the pointer right..... |
| Quasi_Mojo | 09-23-2008 12:17 PM | I used to do Tech Support for HP business laptops and I had a woman call up and complain that the brand new laptop they bought last week must have had porn on it when they bought it.
She would go into her web-based e-mail account to view pictures that were sent through e-mail. They would open up in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and she would then use the forward and back arrows to scroll through them. She went back to the first one, click the back arrow and saw porn. I explained that what she was really viewing was Internet Explorer's cache and what she was seeing was downloaded from the Internet. She then tells me that only she and her husband use the laptop.
*sigh*
I explained how cache works, and showed her how to clear it out. I then advised her that, should she encounter such pictures again, she'll know where they came from (her husband). |
| HairyOldEbayer | 09-23-2008 03:23 PM | "No one ever lost money from underestimating the intelligence of the public."
Lemme see. Was selling two stroke scooters. Ad clearly states they are two stroke and require a 1:25 premix gas/oil. Instructions clearly state that too. Get a call from a buyer and complains I sold him junk. I started asking questions. Turns out he fired it up on straight gas, drove around the neighborhood and promptly blew the engine. Wanted a refund and a shipping refund. You can imagine what I told him.
Tech support gets a call from a lady and says her coffee cup holder broke. Tech guy is puzzled and digs in. "Yes, I put my coffee in the coffee cup holder and it broke!" Turns out she broke her cd-rom tray.

| aspkin | 10-30-2008 10:18 PM | Lol... I learned a long time ago it's sometimes better not to respond to these people.
She had the 'panic' tone in her email. I would have let it go or either responded in a confirming tone.. you screwed this one Modee. :) |
| aspkin | 10-30-2008 11:11 PM | Lol.. that would be wise. |
| Here We Go Again | 10-30-2008 11:32 PM | There should be a section where we can post Bad Buyers by Category.
Then we all can share our deadbeats and PITA buyers. |
| Ebay_Victim | 11-01-2008 05:10 AM | I ship 1st class for most auctions. I combine shipping. They still complain.
