Los Angeles, CA minus all the smog and traffic. San Diego is a bit more south of there which has nearly perfect weather, living conditions, barely any traffic, very clean, however on the downside is it can get a little boring. Don't forget the LA Lakers and the SD Chargers for sports entertainment. Plus you get nice beaches with both of those choices, amusement parks, diversity, great food, education, clubbing and partying.
You can also do just about anything you can think of and it is of driving distance. If you want to go snowboarding you can go up to Big Bear, camping at the beach you can go to Carlsbad, camping in the forest you've got Kings Canyon national forest which has the biggest most beautiful trees in the world. I can go on and on.
In my opinion though everyone has their own "best place to live". No place is better than another it's just your taste.
