LolThe preview is so dramatic. Sounds like one of those old B action movie trailers.

If the Goverment does indeed have the ability to Clamp down on all this as they say, then it enable sellers to Sell all Legit items at a Profit.

It is very simple, if Legit items are no longer competing with Counterfeit items then the overall item Prices will RISE Dramatically, I am Not sure how that will effect the Overall economy, but at least Selleres will all be on a Level playing field.

What is Interesting is how, the Vice President, while he was giving Examples of how some Counterfeit items like Counterfeit auto parts or Pharmasudical Items could Harm people that he also mentioned Software in the same breath, it goes to show you Just how much influence Software Companies (the BSA) have in Washington.

That show was pretty funny.
Did not say a whole lot.
The stock piles of seized goods was a little eye opening....

Most likely this show taught a whole bunch of people how to make extra money online.. lol give it a couple weeks and I wouldn't be surprised to see an influx of new competition.

I have seen this report, I believe it came out at the end of June. Their two main concerns seem to be movies being downloaded on the internet (it makes sense, as this is probably where Hollywood loses the most money) and ⊗⊗⊗⊗ drugs. Although everything else is mentioned.

What I found REALLY INTERESTING was the top 10 list of seized items from 2009:

Rank/ Item/ % of Seizures
1 Footwear 38%
2 Consumer Electronics 12%
3 Handbags 8%
4 Apparel 8%
5 Watches 6%
6 Computers 5%
7 Media 4%
8 Drugs 4%
9 Jewelry 4%
10 Toys & Games 2%

This type of thing seems to come up every couple of years, then it dies down. Although there is no arguing that technology is getting better.

What Kills me is that there is NO MENTION of What in My Mind is the SINGLE BIGGEST Reason that Counterfeit Products Flourish---Coporate Greed---The Companies that Charge people Excessive amounts of Money for their Products. I can actually Understand and Agree to a certain Extent with Herme's and other Designers for Charging Thousands of Dollars for a Handbag or Shoes that Might cost them $50.00--That is all about allowing a Certain Class of People (The Rich) to distinguish themselves, and you know, People who are wealthy and have earned it I guess deserve it. But when I see Companies Charging $150.00-$200.00 for a DVD Boxset that cost them $10,00, TOPPS, or a CD for $20.00, that cost them $1.00--Thats Corporate Greed Pure and Simple, and please Do Not tell me about the Artists, the BIGGEST Actors, and Singers get about 2%-8% of those Sales. so lets do the math a $200.00 Boxset-8%(16.00)-$20.00(for production of the Set)=$164.00 for the Company, I Know they have additional expenses, but I also Know that they have their Bonuses, Corporate "Luncheons", Board meetings, "Business Meetings at Strip Clubs, Limos, and on and on, then they "Cook" the Books and "Screw" the Stockholders.

None of this goes on in the far East.

CNBC Will NEVER Tell you, But this is a HUGH Factor that allows Counterfeiters to flourish. Immaging if they Sold the DVD in My example for $40.00 or $50.00, How Many Counterfeits do you think would Exist?

My favorite part of the argument is that this costs American jobs. What was the last time we actually MANUFACTURED these items in the USA?

The problem is when these bootlegs seep into dangerous industries such as health and pharmaceutical that can have impact of lives. That's my only contribution to this discussion of counterfeit. I do work in health care and some stuff I see out there is downright scary and when it hits close to home, boy is it enraging!

The rest of that list - electronics, DVDs, footwear - those are hardly ESSENTIALS - those are the wants of society. Can you live with those? Yes - so bootleg or not, capitalism and competition will always trump the legit.

Haven't seen to many items that were "Made in USA". I mostly see "Made in China" on a lot of items. Most people in the US want to get paid more for a simple job, but they can just pay people in china to do it for much less. Just hope we can start making our own products again.
