| oompaloompa | 09-27-2010 06:32 AM | mutt cat found for a week, a mutt with no collar, young cat but not kitten, has visited our door. Noticed it followed us home, mini was eating a sandwich in pushchair and might have wanted some, but mini was not feeling generous that day..when we got through front door I felt sorry for it and gave it a can of tuna which it gobbled. It has lurked outside ever since and we have been feeding it. Mini has named it and pesters me every 5 seconds to see fuu fuu outside. What do I do, I am not keen to let it in, Ive never owned a cat, do I take it to vet first, what do I check for, or just leave it as an outdoor cat and give it a bed in outhouse? If it stays, and doesnt just wander of somewhere else, will it get too cold in outhouse, given temp outside in Winter may be freezing? I kind of feel responsible for the darn thing now... |
| stickmade | 09-27-2010 09:52 AM | Same thing happen to me, dog appears at door, hungry, we fed it, it stayed, 10 years later, hes still with us.
Best thing if you want to keep it take it too vet, get him checked, if alls good, she'll be fine in an out house, theirs cats in our neighborhood outside year round and they survive. Your attached to it now! Good luck |
| jamblix | 09-28-2010 12:55 AM | That sounds awesome! Send the cat to me through DHL, I'll take care of it. Just pray it doesn't get stuck in customs :pry:. |
| jeffweico | 09-28-2010 01:20 AM | It is a great honor that the cat chose you. Certainly get the cat to a vet so that you can make sure the cat is well.
Tuna is not a great diet for a cat, but they DO love it. Forget the saucer of milk, cats are lactose intolerant.
But they are an absolute joy to have around, and animals don't have agendas. Their wants are simple... Feed me, play with me, rub my tummy, pet me...
And, yes, you should - if at all possible - take it indoors after the Vet OK's it. Domestic cats don't tend to do well in the outdoors. They CAN freeze to death over the winter. And I don't know the exact situation in the UK, but here the animal shelters are always at capacity and many good, cute, loving, kind and gentle souls are lost every day for the lack of a decent huiman being to take care of them.
Oompa, I know that you are a wonderful human being and will do the right thing. Give kitty a home. Not only will kitty love you, but God will look favorably upon you as well.
Of course, mine is not an unbiased opinion. I definitely have a soft spot when it comes to animals, especially cats. Animals are truly God's innocent creatures.
And if you give the cat to Jamblix, me and my cat are coming to the UK. I'll hold you down and Lil' Guy will sit on you. :D |
| SaiJin | 09-28-2010 01:24 AM | Jeff.... you love cats , don't you? I have a weak spot for them too. But I'm allergic.
Heck, my next pet will be a baby snow leopard.
Btw.. is your cat still that fat? |

| jeffweico | 09-28-2010 02:02 AM | See???? Even GreenBean Agrees! |
| SaiJin | 09-28-2010 02:24 AM | That's a white tiger! Not a snow leopard!
btw... where's your normal Penguin avatar, GB?
Jeff, if I don't get a heart attack from cat, I'll sneeze and itch to death.
It's a curse. |

| oompaloompa | 09-28-2010 03:57 AM | hmm you guys are making me feel bad!, but I dont think I can have it in the main indoors, as allergies run in the family and I have a feeling mini will be the same, thats why we cant really have indoor pets (well we have an aquarium) plus I dont really like pet smells or mess in my house. Ive always thought animals belong outdoors and free, my relatives have a farm and the dogs and cats and chickens and rabbits , all have their own little smelly homes they go to when they want..I will take the vets advice anyway, but I could put a portable radiator in the outhouse, it has electricity, Ive put a bed there already and it (not sure if its boy or girl) is sleeping there sometimes, I think...
Im already looking online for a cheap pet carrier for it, honesty, this thing turns up and starts costing me money!
As for attention, it has plenty of attention from mini, yes it is a nice cat, it has had toys thrown at it, been run over by the scooter and its tail pulled and it hasnt freaked out..yet..
tuna - no good, ok noted, I havent been buying that filth they call cat food, Ive bought it turkey sandwich slices and it has leftovers, like chicken skin etc..
is that ok? |
| SaiJin | 09-28-2010 08:58 AM | Jeff.... I love cats too, but you are starting to creep me out...
you are not one of those people that end up living in a house alone with 50 cats, are you? |
Yikes - Jeff the cat man ha.
I had a cat I took in when I was abroad - had it for a month or so - was feeding it low grade sausages - it liked that ok. |
| needhelpplease | 09-28-2010 09:48 AM | This is an "ode to my stray cat love": I am a dog person for sure.....love love love love my dogs....however had a cat come to my house awhile ago and just wouldnt leave....I am allergic to cats, but this one was just so perfect...acted just like a darn dog! He would sleep on my porch all night everynight and would come out the woods when he would hear my car pull up and great me with purrs and meows and rubs, so I decided to start feeding it....well it surely became my BEST friend, even became BEST friends with one of my pitbulls who also decided to start sleeping on the porch WITH the cat. Whenever I would sit on the porch "cat" (that is what I named him) would jump on my lap and purr and purr and purr and rub my face, neck, anything. More than a million times I would shoo him off but he would jump right back on....I didnt have the heart to continue to push him off so..... I would break out in a rash and my eyes would turn blood red and puffy and itchy EVERY SINGLE DARN DAY, but I just loved him! Soon he never left my porch or yard and he became MINE even though he only was able to stay outside! One day he came "home" with his face half off! LITERALLY and I cleaned him off, medicined him up and wrapped his head (a complete bonding experience, lol!)and in about 1 week he was growing his skin back.....and in a month not even so much as a scar showed. 2 months after that....1 day goes by...2 days go by....a week....and no "cat".....now I am a grown woman but I cried and cried and cried.....walked through the woods for days calling for it... and nothing.....never saw him again...my eyes are tearing up right now! I LOVED that darn cat! So yes, this was a long story, but it is dedicated to him. Hope he is happy wherever he is! |
That is one long writ of diarrhea needhelpplease ha =) Cheers |

2) 3 cats. One planned, the other two were given up by a friend of mine as his health deteriorated and he could no longer care for them. But I love all three of my precious balls of fur. |
| TRIALnERROR | 09-29-2010 12:01 AM | My roomate has two cats. They refuse to feed them dry food and only wet food. This equals to cat vomit all over my hardwood floors and/or carpet. The stuff looks like cat poop/dingleberries. Why I don't like cats?? ...let me think..
:argue: |

:argue: | The problem is not the cats, it is the roommate. If they are vomiting up the wet food, either they have a medical issue and should be checked out by a vet, or they should be switched to food that agrees with them.
Think of it this way. If every time you ate at a certain restaurant you vomited, you would stop going to that restaurant. But the cats do not have that choice, they are eating the only food the roommate will give them.
The cats (and you) are the innocent victims in this situation. |

is that ok? | Buy cat food for the cat, shoudn't cost you more than a couple of bucks. I feel sorry for the cat...
Cats may be one of the cleanest animals you can have, they are litter trained and learn very fast. Also, in regards to allergies, I used to be allergic to furry animals such as cats but I found out after I got them that I had no allergic reactions....
You might want to get it checked by a vet...usually free of charge for diagnostics to see whats wrong with the animal.. |
| MadSam | 10-03-2010 03:07 PM | Did you get the cat checked out oompa? Has it got a new home with you now? |
| oompaloompa | 10-04-2010 01:47 PM | ok, went to vet today, cat is ok around a year old, a tom. I have been given a basic schedule of jabs etc.
vet thinks it was previously owned and either had collar removed accidentally or deliberately, as born in wild strays are rare, its not been chipped.
vet thinks it should live indoors, at least at night, so I am still thinking over how to organise it. |
| revskank | 10-04-2010 02:42 PM | I adopted a stray cat from a crazy lady earlier this year, she has over 50! He was a pest for the first 3 night, singing all night long as he had been outside for a while I think. He eventually settled really well and is the best, bit strange, very lazy and possibly part sheep going by his huge curly coat!
We don't have bad winters here so there are plenty of strays around that survive fine through the winter outside. Cats are very adaptable and are suited very well as strays. They cope just fine.
I live in an apartment and he is happy inside all the time (possibly cos the lazy git sleeps all day) and very clean but I do think they need a bit of outside, I have 2 balconies and he loves to sleep on the wall outside and watch the bats at night, too lazy to get up and try to catch them though.
They don't smell bad(well his breath does) as long as you keep litter box clean or let him outside to do his business. They clean themselves all the time so never get dirty and smelly.
You couldn't get a better pet in my opinion and he will show you plenty of love and require nothing more than a bit of attention and some food.
Mine sleeps on the bed next to me, head on pillow, never a sound unless he gets up in the night for some football practice. Wakes me in the morning, though just so I will feed him I think.
You should definitely keep him, you will not regret it, I keep wanting to bring the local strays home, there is a cool one up the road from me that stops the cars to get attention and miaows so loud that you can't walk past and ignore him!
Give him a chance and I am sure you will never want him to go, he will grow on you as their character's are superb. You will see, he will be no trouble.
Get a few toys, balls are good as they will amuse themselves for hours.
Good luck and hope he makes you happy, I know mine makes me very happy. It's very calming to sit and stroke them and I needed calming quite often, lol. Very useful for a bad day of paypal grief! |
| oompaloompa | 10-04-2010 02:57 PM | I am keeping him, definately, if he wants to stay.....its where his bed is thats the problem. Anywhere near my bed - hell no.
you need to adopt that miaow in the road one, he sounds like mine... has habit of sitting in the road until one mili-second before a car hits him...and now he is running in front of my car as I drive through gate, and Im like did I squash it or didnt I?....we may be having a funeral soon for pizza cat... |

I have a hymalian cat now...paid $350 for this annoying thingy but is super adorable...
Btw, cat's love to sleep on the floor, I can't get my cat to sleep on my bed. Don't know why, but I bought it a bed from a pet store and it never used it. Had to return the god damn bed I bought for $30! |
| oompaloompa | 10-04-2010 04:31 PM | burning, your cat was driving a car? wow
ok names please, its a boy, and it has to be centred around fufu, which is minis drool name for it
Fugley is favourite so far |
| revskank | 10-04-2010 04:33 PM | I am trying to persuade my better half to let me bring the cat home, she already tells me off for letting Jules(my half sheep monster cat) sleep on the bed, so talks may go on for a while, lol. She did say if I find a hymalian I don't have to ask to bring that one home!
I will have my cat army soon and then the world is mine!
FuFu in Maltese means hairy chest. hahahaha! |

I meant that I let her outside since she meows at the door if I don't. The cat usually came back within thirty minutes to an hour, but that time it didn't come for a couple of hours and I started to get worried.
I waited a day, threw some cat treats in the front and back door so she'd find her way back home. In the end, I had to post signs all over and it end's up that the cat got killed by a crazy speeding driver on the other street. Poor cat...:( |
| oompaloompa | 10-04-2010 05:03 PM | oh sorry about your cat, was it rsot and pod, racing in their pimp-mobiles on the other street that did it....
seriously fufu means hairy chest?
then fufu it will remain then......I like a hairy beast |
| jeffweico | 10-05-2010 12:16 AM | Oompa, you won't regret it.
Cats are VERY LOVING creatures.
Good Karma all around.
I'M SO HAPPY FOR FUFU!!! |

how about Bruiser? |
| aspkin | 10-05-2010 01:41 AM | We had a cat once, it had a name but like all pets of mine I just called it what it was, kitty. :) |
