CM6 will work to root your LG ally and port a custom rom. as the LG ally just got the froyo 2.2 update CM7 and 2.3 Gingerbread will be able to be ported in time
Last android phone I had was the G1 and 1.5 OS. I really liked android a lot but the G1 was pretty underpowered. And I must have a keyboard. Full touch screen is not to my liking. I think I may revisit the droid here soon. I see they have some devices now that are half keyboard and half touch. I like that.
Blackberry is so damn good with email its hard to let go. How is the droid for security when it comes to reading emails from PP and eBay?
Yep, i'm very interested in Gingerbread. I'll be using it when the super thin Sony Xperia ARC comes out in April. The phone is so beautiful. I'm also interested in Honeycomb for Googles official Xoom tablet by Motorola. This should be a good year for Google.
Yeah i run CM6 .. CM7 is nice and all, but last nightly build i checked, it didn't have tethering like CM6 does. So i'm patiently waiting to get my gingerbread.. did try it out, it's awesome

Hey NewTools,
Can you briefly explain in "layman's terms" why that update would benefit me?
Why would I need it? Why and how it would make my phone better?
Will it make my internet connection faster? I swear, 3G is about as fast as dial up flipping between web site pages on my phone.
ur phone would have to be a 4g phone on a4g network and get extra $10 fee for it to be faster. but some models with the mod would get free tethering among many other features. you can google: Android Gingerbread 2.3 features - i will see if i can post them latter. the CM6 or CM7 mod has other tweeks but it depends on ur phone and the build.
I dont get mail on my phone.i use log mein to connect to my home pc, and in thunder fox all are listed. Besides when I am at work.. I use factory resets and nandroid restores of clean states of the phone so I can change accounts.

ya, I used to have a droid. Tons of apps out there. But I was just concerned with their email app. I know the blackberry is secure when it comes to email. But thats a completely different way of handling data. The droid wouldn't use a server like BB, it would use the data connection from carrier. So it would have an IP. And I wouldn't want to reset it just to read mail
I'm fairly sure the gmail app would use the settings from your main gmail regarding images and what not. But, not knowing for sure is a bit of a deal breaker
