The Legislation That Could Kill Internet Privacy for Good
There is legislation being pushed in Congress that would absolutely kill any privacy you have on the internet. Of course, to push it through, they are claiming to be doing so in the name of "Protecting the Children" - which it will not do. But that does not matter, because the bill is NOT about protecting the children, it is about monitoring everyone's internet use freely, without that pesky problem of obtaining a warrant to track your information. This bill has been very broadly written, on purpose, so that it can be argued as to how far ISP's must go in collecting data. That way, they can be strongarmed into collecting much more than just IP addresses.
Anytime a law like this is passed, it takes away our freedoms.
I know that some will say If you are not doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about. But that is SO not the point! Believe me, if Law Enforcement suspects you are trading kiddie porn, stealing credit card data, are involved in terrorism, etc. then they will have NO PROBLEM getting a judge to sign off on a warrnt to track your activity. And that is how it should be. Checks and balances. Checks and balances have worked well for us since our country was founded. Any system set up so that there is no accountability is bound to be abused.
Sometimes I wonder if the KGB operatives from the former Sovet Union got bored since the fall of the Union and decided to infiltrate our political system....
