Default ebay sellers together start another auction site

Since there are tens of thousands or perhaps hundreds of thousands of active and ex-ebay sellers are disgusted at ebay's policies, they should join together and form another auction site to defeat ebay. There must be many ebay sellers or ex-sellers with high IT level training, and some with very strong finanical and business background, enough to wipe out ebay in a flash if they work together. Perhaps forming a corporation, the difference is the sellers and also buyers can become part of the corporation, they run the company and share profits, they decide on the rules and policies best for them, not dictate by an arrogant company like ebay.

Ebay's success secret is no secret, it is really only about advertising and marketing. No big deal.

People rise up and beat this internet auctions dictator.

No offense, but the only thing that can compete with eBay is Google. And they're even taking their sweet time before they step in the ring with this giant.

But don't forget that Google was a very small guy when it stepped into the ring against Yahoo. Well, guess who got TKO in the first round.

Google have a good chance defeating ebay, but who knows what Google is thinking. Preparing a good time for a TKO on ebay like it did to Yahoo?

That's true..

Well if there was a revolutionary way of doing trading, and there was a huge demand for it. It would work. But so far eBay is just doing enough to stay the big dog for now.

I hope some day soon we good average citizens of the world all join together and form some kind of government system that really allows everyone with the rights to decide what's best for ourselves, not dictate by one guy or a small tight group of politicans. This goes same for worldwide online activities such as online auctions. If ebay can get hundreds of millions of people sign up and trade through their site, while makes multi billions of dollars, sucking the blood and sweat of sellers who are mostly small guys or ladies who live on small income, then it is possible to get those same sellers join together and form their own corporation which they have better control and make more money.

the question is when will they start to get there stuff together. to think

Yup, 'Google Auctions' sounds like a good name, but then Google has become another monster too.

'Google Checkout' is not popular, the name doesn't sound right, kind of dull, they should change the name, 'Google Pay' or something better.

The world is always waiting for a leader or leaders to start the action, once it gets going, man, ebay will callapse overnight. Ebay doesn't know who are paying them or they are just bullying. A dog never bites the hands that feed it, unless that dog is a stupid and nasty one.

I was reading that google is having a meeting of the "minds" about this in May. They have already spent tons of money to train and develop the idea of it but they are not going to jump before they are 150% ready. A failed auction site would be a killer for them and they know it.
They know if they take their sweet time and learn, develop and watch ebay destroy itself that they will or could be in ebays shoes real quick.
Agree with Aspkin, noone could compete with ebay other then the household name of google.
All others with tons of money and resources have failed. You have to have both money and a household name.

Anyway why would google be interest in creating an auction site? They are making millions with ebay's ads on adsense... Plus if they were to fail or if the fraud rate was to be higher than on ebay, it could domage Google's image.

Google do bring in a LOT from ebay on adsense, however remember that if they were to launch an auction site, I expect their profits from that would be vastly more than their income from ebay on adsense, so they could afford to loose those ads.

Regardless, unless ebay wanted to go VASTLY down hill and give in to competition from a google auction site, they wouldn't stop using adsense. It's probably their huge adsense budget that has helped them to get where they are.

But I really can't wait for the day google would bring out an auction site. As already said, google have the budget, resources and most certainly the skills to make an awesome auction site.

If they were to release such a thing, which dear lord I hope they do, we will have to be so careful to keep a "clean" slate. After all look what services of google's we use - sitemaps, adsense, adwords, analytics, search, mail, so we could be easily linkable.

But meh, it would be nice to see a fresh auction site built that was built on good customer service with an itent to LISTEN to and TREAT their sellers with respect.

TaoBao.com will wipe out US ebay soon. TaoBao is owned by Alibaba.com - world's most popluar B2B website - this company has more cash capital than ebay. Even though not everyone can read Chinese, anyone visited TaoBao's site can see that it's far more attractive and advance than ebay. It has more listings than all ebay worldwide sites and any other auctions sites combined, offers free listings, stores and escrow service.

Albaba is working on spreading TaoBao to US market, there will be no hope for ebay at all.

The times I have got so frustrated with taobao because there is no english version... I really WISH they would offer a translated version. Doesn't work with google translator when you try and login.

I forgot about Alibaba actually... they are another candidate that could do a fantastic job of setting up an auction site. Along with Alipay which could be the next paypal.

China’s Taobao.com is almost the equivalent of eBay which is dedicated for Chinese domestic market.
