Anyone SUCCESSFULLY Used Dial-Up over VOIP?
I searched the forums here and also on Google and found that trying to use dial-up over a VOIP line is probematic at best. Sometimes it will not work at all, and those who have gotten it working say it is very slow.
My current Telecom provider (Frontier) provides my voice and internet service. The Voice line is the old fashioned POTS which works fine with dial-up. My internet is 6MB/sec DSL, which is FAST for DSL.
My problem is I was just notified that they are upgrading my area to Fiber Optics in the next 30 days. In a way it is nice, as they have agreed to let me have the new internet service at the same price as my current one for 3 years and the new one is 20MB/sec, which is 3x faster than what I have now. The bad thing is, the phone lines will now be digital VOIP lines and POTS will no longer be available.
I only have a coule of dial-up accounts, so I COULD just get some internet sticks for them. But dial-up works wonders for avoiding a lot of eBay's verification traps.
So, my question is, has anyone SUCCESSFULLY used a dial-up modem over a VOIP line?
