Some stealthers have real accounts too ;)

You know what I mean!

Omgoozle 03-24-2012 08:05 PM

Been at this about a year and 3 months.

I have mulitplied my old income by 10-fold. I work 7 days a week. I often forget or don't know what day it is. I wake up anywhere between 7am and 2pm and work until 1 or 3am every day.

Some suggestions:

Maintain a schedule, even if you don't need to. I try to run every morning.
Make sure you shower daily, even if you don't really want to.
Keep up with your real life, no matter how addicting making unlimited money is.
Try to get outside daily. And by "outside" I mean more than "the post office."

Take days off. Many of the crazy restrictions eB has are stress-inducing for the seller. I need to respond to customer complaints and I have to make sure everything is marked as shipped within 24 hours across 40 accounts.... that's ridiculous! I make sure I take 1-2 days a week to get out of my house and say "F-it, if the complaints happen they happen."

I often lie about what I do for a living, or I am vague about it. When people ask me about it, I say I'm in "Internet Sales" and keep it as vague as possible. If they ask for details, I get a little snotty.

Quote:

"Internet sales? What do you really do?"

"Well, I buy low and sell higher on the internet. I am a postal guru and I know anything there is to know about credit card merchants and PP policies. It took me about 6 months of working 14 hours a day to learn how to do it right. If you know how to do it it's easier then you think."
I live an opulant lifestyle in New York City, where most of my friends make upwards of $300,000 a year and throw fully-catered open-bar rooftop parties on the Upper West Side. I learned very quickly that the reaction to saying "I sell things on eB for a living" at a dinner party is the equivalent of saying, "I have a mild case of leperacy so my doctor says I can't treat my syphalis for another few weeks."

Keep it vague. Don't tell many people what you do for a living. They won't understand.

Don't work full time, probably only a couple hours or less per day, spend the rest of my time cruising, working out and partying.

Gman91189 03-24-2012 08:50 PM

I do a combined of what bluntz and omgoozle
when I first started (roughly 2 yrs ago) I couldn't believe the amount of money I was making and honestly it was getting addicting, to the point I didn't wanna get out the house see friends play sports, nothing but make money.
Trust me when ur at a point of making 4-500 a month! Then one day I start doing this and first week I make well over 2k, its like winning the lotto every day!!!
It was amazing, but at the time I was disorganized, but as more time and i gained "ebay maturity" I've since learned to make a list of which days to do which accounts mathematically knowing which day what item and account is ending on what day... sounds confusing but helps alot I went from 18-14hrs a day to 3-4 Effient hours a day 5-6 days a wk and making over 10k a month without effort and partying and hitting the gym alot more often...

And when ppl ask I just say I work from home and if they want to know more I say sale products and services or internet sales, like stated above, ppl won't understand what u mean.

And yes, best most rewarding job. Make my own hrs, NEVER have to worry about taking sick days and also the harder I work the more money I get, no bosses screaming at u or u busting ur a$$ every day for no extra pay
And trust me when u go from taking a bus for 6 hrs in the rain and only working 4hrs a day to going to a lot and getting whatever car u want and moving to an upscale neighborhood and tablets PC's laptops TVs sound systems and just getting whatever u want WHENEVER u want....just feels like heaven, living worry free LITERALLY, there's nothing better

What job are/were you doing at 37.5 an hour?

I'd be lucky to even make $7 an hour as an Elementary Teacher....

Not $37.50/hr.. The OP meant he works 37.5 hours per day at his current job. Maybe ex-job by now...

Callidus 03-26-2012 03:09 PM

No ex job as of yet still putting into play a business plan to make sure the whole plan of selling via about 15 accounts doesnt go south in the first week.

Fail to plan, plan to fail.

biggun - got any other advice apart from the above about going full time?

biggunn 03-26-2012 04:24 PM

Don't put all your eggs in 1 basket. Also make sure to start testing your revenue sources or product lines to find any problems or issues. The more testing the better.

Before I met my Wife I also worked on ebay full time, 16hr days just doing research, selling items but I had to slow down big time. Now I feel good if I can make $2k a month with only putting in maybe 10-12 hrs a week. Gotta enjoy the little things in life.

Speaking of enjoying the little things, I'm enjoying my Week off School!

Ah, I read it wrong. Thanks for clarifying that.
I was thinking, who the heck would leave a $37.50 an hour job. Haha.
I'd take that job, even if it mean shoveling sh*t off the street.:peace:

Sometimes you can take a job up while easing into eB + AZ + other sales than go at that full time.

I've backed off Eb and amz these days, before my business model was not tight enough, I was working my ass off for not enough money. I started doing freelancing work online instead, I live in a poor country but make the same money as I would do back in the UK.

Having said that I now have a tighter business model for Ebay and Amz(insight gained through failure) and will be cranking it up. My goal is to make my accounts ultra low maintenance by outsourcing, maximising the tools available etc.
