It's funny because we were actually talking about 'Apple' in my marketing class at university. Our lecturer said Apple spends less than Microsoft on advertising, and yet they've gone into a trend that to have a 'apple device' is 'cool' and 'luxurious' whilst a windows device is the 'norm'..and through their own marketing techniques they imprint this in your brain..just like how they imprint..if you have a iphone 4..you NEED a iPhone 5 now..

GhostWhoWalks 02-14-2013 06:21 PM

People got to keep up with technology! They'll make things work with iphone 5 and it wont work with iphone 4 no more. So you HAVE to buy the newer crap. Do you see windows XP running most java sites and so on? NO you need windows 7 at least along with games and programs cause your old pc won't have enough ram or graphics card won't work with newer stuff! And google chrome or IE won't work with older system cause they require a lot of power! Etc.

Yep thats a point too ghostworks..

I know it is! It's like video game systems okay? We all loved SNES game system or Play station 1! What does the gaming world companies do? They give you a new system, and stop making games for the old system, so if you want newer games YOU have to buy a NEWER system! It's all manipulation anyways, and they push you to buy it! The best system you can get is a Computer! But after 2 or 3 years, good bye! It also needs upgrades and so on! I got a laptop Sony Viao. Very nice system here. I play old games, newer games etc. Works wonders for me! I watch my movies on it, I do my business, I do video chat with the wifey. I read my news.

Gosh how did all these older people do it back then? Must of been a boring life!

I've actually just read all of your posts since the last time I replied, just now... was a good discussion you folks had :)

And I totally agree that spending your money on crap and pleasures is stupid !

Well that's interesting.

Pleasures and luxuries are just hollow. When you tag the term Marketing (like say Apple does) that changes the meaning of entire concept. I find Apple and "the likes" quite Hollow. Promoting a product as better or superior over the competition when there's nothing more to it there than a layer of simple luxury, is somewhat foul. Especially given the state of affairs in the world today, notably between the haves and have-nots. I guess luxuries have their limited place, but it can't be demanded as the norm -- perhaps only in a world of limitless resources.

When you market a product what is the real aim behind it? I couldn't agree less Apple is too good at Marketing and also patently obvious that the content of that marketing is rather quite dilute. To me these sort of practises give Marketing a bad name.

If you're going to Market something sell it for it's actual value and content. Not BS customers into thinking there is more there than actually is.

Another example is the type of marketing you see on eBay with flood-loads of the same product all trying to undercut one another. This is probably the other extreme end of the Apple scenario -- poor marketing mated with literal junk.
