Yep, well the USA has 5x the population of the UK. And China well... has a billion people that just found out they can afford cars.

If the US dollar is strong, we have it cheap and most other countries suffer. But since the dollar is weak, it makes it cheaper for other countries to buy oil since it's priced in dollars. Not only that, but big countries like China subsidies Oil and their citizens find it's at a reachable price. So they start to buy cars like crazy which they are, bringing up the demand and price for everyone else. Gas in China right now cost $2.49 A Gallon. Which is still pretty expensive for them, but not unreachable for their up and coming middle class.

We're screwed people... unless the US dollar regains strength soon which will slow the demand from other countries because it'll increase oil prices. China will dominate the demand and prices will never go down.

The only reason the UK people are hurting right now is because of their government...

You guys would have it cheap cheap right now... but your government wants your money. :(

You are correct Aspkin....

Greg, actually, we are going to run out. When we reach 1 billion cars, the world cannot produce enough oil. Another real problem is that our Western countries are importing from countries not friendly to us. All it would take is a couple of terrorists attacks on Saudi Arabian pipelines or an attack in the Persian gulf, and the price could double again.

And yes, there are many families in America who cannot afford the prices. You need to understand that the United States is not developed like Europe for mass transit. Also, when gas doubles like it has here in the past three years, everything increases in price. Food, clothing, electricity, etc....

We are all suffering due to the prices. Look to British Air and Virgin airlines.....

However, my whole point was that instead of "whining," we actually do something about it. Aspkin is on track, looking at the motorcycle.

And to boost, we might just save the planet. I really cannot imagine what the air will look like in 13 years with one Billion cars spitting out exhaust. It would be like sitting in my garage with the door closed and running my car.....

By the way GREAT discussion and points made by everyone....

Yea. china is going to stuff us all eventually as the earth cant stand the tap on resources that they put on it. And they dont care much about polution or damage they do. just look at the yangze river.
Almost dead.
I don’t believe that china’s happy if the states is in recession as it means consumers will not consume so much of there products. On top of that there is a crack down of Chinese ⊗⊗⊗⊗ across the west….even eBay.. Dvd and clothes/ there going to suffer too…
Time to go ligit I think
China is one of the most corrupt places in the world. its in the culture. they taught the Philippines how to be corrupt. they spread it all about. not saying uk is pure. but we are like little bo peep compared to chinas idi amin

Just China! Do not to include India in this as well. Both countries are becoming more and more capitalistic and that will not make for a happier world in the long run.

badebay...so true, so true....China does not car about the resources or planet....

Greg, also so true. India is getting ready to introduce the worlds smallest car. It will be manufactured for India's population only. It will cost about $2,000 American dollars, or about twice the price of a scooter. This car is marketed to all the scooter drivers wanting to move up....

Wow....more cars....

I think I am going to buy a scooter...

Seems very ironic really. there upsizing and were downsizing. our goverment here has slapped a huge tax on gas guzzlers like 4x4 s. i had one for a year. i got rid of it as tax was a pain. glad i did as it did about 25 miles a gallon. now i have a zippy nissan . it does about 39 40 round town/ and 55 on a run. smallest engine and tax is lowest band. but it still does 80 90 mph on the freeway. the seats collapse and it turns into a small van. happy hatch.

I just wonder how high prices will reach...I sure as hell am not going to pay 10$/gal. I'll probably switch to bio-diesel- just waiting till Nissan releases the diesel version of Titan. :D

Even tho it cost me $65 to fill up, when I think how much other countries pay, its nothing. I'm glad its this much as it makes people abandon house sized SUVs that were so popular here. You can barely give away them now lol. What good is a SUV? Oh I can drive thru mountains, and I can plow thru snow. I can move a sofa. I an fit 18 people. I get 5 miles a gallon but its all good. How many times does it snow a year? Do you climb a mountain pass every day to work? Do you move a sofa every week? Come on! I'm sorry I just hate SUVs with a passion. People who drive these didn't give a crap about the environment when gas was $1.50 a gallon.

I have actualy looked into a wind turbine... lots of leg work to see if you can even HAVE one in the city.... but, lord knows, Kansas has PLENTY of wind. My goal is to have NO UTLITIES, solar, etc.
I just hate wasting my money on "stupid " stuff in my old age. rather waste it on.... travel, having a chef... maybe a driver... a cleaning lady......designer clothes.....
