Winning not whining....

Winning not whining....

It is time for action. I personally am fed-up with $4.00 a gallon gas. That being said, I am also tired of seeing people whine about the high cost of gas as they drive their 13 miles per gallon vehicles by themselves to commute daily.

Believe it or not, the truth is that we are the ones to blame for the high cost of fuel. America accounts for 5% of the world's population, but uses 25% of the world's resources. This includes petroleum.

We can all work together to solve this problem. T Boone Pickens is arguably the best oil man over the last 50 years. He has literally made Billions of dollars in the oil market. Yet, he has a plan......

http://www.pickensplan.com/

Take a moment and look at his plan. We CAN solve this problem, if we want to.......

greg2414 07-15-2008 09:39 AM

I dont get why they cant afford to import??
I thought customers pay their bills, which pay's for the importing?

Am i missing something?

I know it's bad (oil) but i dont get why he says we cant afford it? When the customers are paying for it ?

aspkin 07-15-2008 01:50 PM

I wish I could open my own wind farm... Or just have one wind turbine in my backyard.

That would be great.. :)

badebay 07-15-2008 03:54 PM

you guys in ths states paying $4.00 a gallon ?? how much is it/ how much has it risen street level. ?? were paying £1.19.5 a litre here in uk

aspkin 07-15-2008 04:40 PM

About $4 a gallon.

You guys are like $8, yes?

greg2414 07-15-2008 04:44 PM

i filled up my vauxhall vivaro the other day at BP. £105 to fill it and that was 70Ltrs. rediculous.

I remember when the lrs would be the same as the cost near enough.

Aspkin, there is a chap near me who has his own wind turbine in his garden lol, beasting thing!

GreenBean 07-15-2008 05:07 PM

A lot of wind here on the forum could be harnessed!

Fuel prices are getting worse, that is for sure.

TMiles 07-15-2008 05:50 PM

For those in the UK, the Americans demand for oil also drive up your prices, and it is only going to get worse...

America has 250 million cars on the road. That is 3 cars for every 4 people. On the other hand, China has only about 80 million cars. That is roughly 4 1/2 cars for every 100 people. The problem is China is increasing car production by 18% to 20% per year. By 2020, in 13 years, China will have more cars than the US. There simply is not enough oil to go around.

Think about this, over 1/2 a billion cars in the US and China alone. Around the world, there will be over 1 billion cars.....

To Greg, unlike the UK, America is vast, and cars are a necessity. We do not live on top of one another.

Further, this increase in gas prices is driving up costs everywhere and the US economy is hurting. And if the US economy sours, so does Europe, Asia, etc........

TMiles 07-15-2008 05:52 PM

Aspkin....I will follow up in a month or so....I am putting up a small wind generator next month....

highwhey 07-15-2008 05:57 PM

I have to drive my car. City buses are always filled with hobos that smell horribly and then their is the weed smoking kid who smells even worse than the hobo. No thanks. I prefer to smell my own scent.

greg2414 07-15-2008 06:43 PM

but the way you put it out and how its being put out is "They cant afford it" it;s not that at all, it's like you said running out, not enough.

If the price of a ltr of petrol was £2 we would still pay it, we would moan but we would still pay, until it runs out.

Anyway, yes im all for wind and reusuable energy.

aspkin 07-15-2008 07:17 PM

I'll be one of the first in line for the all electric volt cars. No more gas for me!

greg2414 07-15-2008 08:01 PM

horse and cart, then use horse dung for powa yay!!! Im the new eistein. God im tired.

badebay 07-16-2008 12:22 AM

Yes gas is $ 8.00 here…we pay about 70% tax that’s why. There is unrest here though and I can see big problems with trucking companies going broke or striking.. Causing misery for us all..

I saw Bush has given the go ahead for oil exploration in places that were banned before. In the states..
I recon the Arabs are trying to make as much as possible before the oil runs out . They already built huge business centres. Like Dubai .
They are worried about the future for them . Maybe they have to give up the convertible rolls and the Aston .

Nissan have been testing a Hydrogen production 4x4 . It has no exhaust as it just pumps out water. 100% environmentally friendly.
I know there are problems with the tank safety. But I read a press release that says they have made the tank take enormous crash tests , they say its safe now. ( it’s an almost silent car ) drives the same as any car…
The other problem I can see its where and who is going to stock hydrogen tanks. ?? Will all gas stations have them on the forecourts.
How much will the 1st models be.. £50,000 I bet !!

APSKIN stop showing off.. im getting a real bike. 1X1 PEDAL POWER. pity i live a mile out ot town really. as i wouldnt bother havin a car.

aspkin 07-16-2008 12:31 AM

I have plans to get a Bike soon. And I'm not talking about a bicycle.

I'm thinking of a Ninja 250 for their 44mpg. Plus they're cool.

http://betoska29.files.wordpress.com...a_250_r_02.jpg

GreenBean 07-16-2008 12:55 AM

BMWs for me, even two wheelers. They are great machines. The F650 is great
BUT its big brother the R1200GS is awesome. Paramedics in Sydney have just
updated to F650 for intra-city responses. They handle really well even on the footpath. Mind, pedestrians get scared.

topazcorp 07-16-2008 01:36 AM

I have an Hayabusa 2008 (the 1299cc edition) and I love it! Cost me almost nothing in gas and like aspkin said, it's pretty cool lol!

With the rising price of the barrel we're gonna get rich (Canadian)! We have the biggest reserve in the world at least twice as big as saudi arabia's and we are the main supplier of the US for oil and electricity.

411guru 07-16-2008 02:49 AM

Us Americans think $4 a gallon is bad? The rest of the world pays $7-8 for 1 liter. 1 gallon = 3.78541178 liters, so thats $15+ a gallon!!! It cost me $65 dollars to fill up my Camry today. I remember when I started driving it cost me $18, 10 years ago. I think the US gas price is just catching up to the rest of the world, its just we had it cheap for so long.

aspkin 07-16-2008 03:15 AM

It's not that much for the UK people, it's more like $8.50 per gallon.

And who cares really, if you think about the EURO as twice the value of the dollar which it is, their hurt is just about the same as it is for the US.

Explained...

A UK Gallon is about 1.2 US Gallons.

Price of gas in Texas today $4.00 for one US Gallon (for ease).
Price of gas in Hertfordshire, England £1.24 (GBP) for one Litre (UK)

1 Litre (UK) is the same as 0.26 US Gallons.

so 3.85 Litres (UK) = 1 US Gallon (roughly)

so £4.78p (GBP) for one gallon of gas in the UK.

Which is $9.42 for one gallon of gas.

badebay 07-16-2008 03:26 AM

your so clever askpin . your right. but you did have it cheap there a long time.

411guru 07-16-2008 03:33 AM

Nice. Did I just get own3d? lol,

In any case, their gas was high for years while ours is catching up. Your answer is correct base on the current world situation assumption. Also, the devaluation of the US dollar is recent. I also know that gas was $7 a liter in Germany 3 years ago and $4 a liter in Japan 4 years ago. Saw it personally.

badebay 07-16-2008 03:39 AM

anyway. anyone knows that china and america are going through the worlds resources like president mugabe has friends. slap !!! ouch !!!!!!!!!

aspkin 07-16-2008 03:57 AM

Yep, well the USA has 5x the population of the UK. And China well... has a billion people that just found out they can afford cars. :)

aspkin 07-16-2008 04:10 AM

If the US dollar is strong, we have it cheap and most other countries suffer. But since the dollar is weak, it makes it cheaper for other countries to buy oil since it's priced in dollars. Not only that, but big countries like China subsidies Oil and their citizens find it's at a reachable price. So they start to buy cars like crazy which they are, bringing up the demand and price for everyone else. Gas in China right now cost $2.49 A Gallon. Which is still pretty expensive for them, but not unreachable for their up and coming middle class.

We're screwed people... unless the US dollar regains strength soon which will slow the demand from other countries because it'll increase oil prices. China will dominate the demand and prices will never go down.

The only reason the UK people are hurting right now is because of their government...

You guys would have it cheap cheap right now... but your government wants your money. :(

greg2414 07-16-2008 05:47 AM

our goverment stinks, reminds me of ebay.
fees here, fees there.

TMiles 07-16-2008 08:14 AM

You are correct Aspkin....

Greg, actually, we are going to run out. When we reach 1 billion cars, the world cannot produce enough oil. Another real problem is that our Western countries are importing from countries not friendly to us. All it would take is a couple of terrorists attacks on Saudi Arabian pipelines or an attack in the Persian gulf, and the price could double again.

And yes, there are many families in America who cannot afford the prices. You need to understand that the United States is not developed like Europe for mass transit. Also, when gas doubles like it has here in the past three years, everything increases in price. Food, clothing, electricity, etc....

We are all suffering due to the prices. Look to British Air and Virgin airlines.....

However, my whole point was that instead of "whining," we actually do something about it. Aspkin is on track, looking at the motorcycle.

And to boost, we might just save the planet. I really cannot imagine what the air will look like in 13 years with one Billion cars spitting out exhaust. It would be like sitting in my garage with the door closed and running my car.....

By the way GREAT discussion and points made by everyone....

TMiles 07-16-2008 08:18 AM

By the way, Please all go to www.pickensplan.com and sign up. Even if your are not in the US, we need all the support we can get. It is going to take a grass roots movement from the people to save our planet and our resources.....

badebay 07-16-2008 08:22 AM

Yea. china is going to stuff us all eventually as the earth cant stand the tap on resources that they put on it. And they dont care much about polution or damage they do. just look at the yangze river.
Almost dead.
I don’t believe that china’s happy if the states is in recession as it means consumers will not consume so much of there products. On top of that there is a crack down of Chinese ⊗⊗⊗⊗ across the west….even eBay.. Dvd and clothes/ there going to suffer too…
Time to go ligit I think
China is one of the most corrupt places in the world. its in the culture. they taught the Philippines how to be corrupt. they spread it all about. not saying uk is pure. but we are like little bo peep compared to chinas idi amin

YEA AND INDIA !!!!

GreenBean 07-16-2008 08:28 AM

Just China! Do not to include India in this as well. Both countries are becoming more and more capitalistic and that will not make for a happier world in the long run.

GreenBean 07-16-2008 08:31 AM

TMilesxxx Can you check the link, please? It did not work for me.

greg2414 07-16-2008 08:34 AM

i say just live

TMiles 07-16-2008 09:50 AM

PickensPlan

My bad....try this one...

TMiles 07-16-2008 09:55 AM

badebay...so true, so true....China does not car about the resources or planet....

Greg, also so true. India is getting ready to introduce the worlds smallest car. It will be manufactured for India's population only. It will cost about $2,000 American dollars, or about twice the price of a scooter. This car is marketed to all the scooter drivers wanting to move up....

Wow....more cars....

I think I am going to buy a scooter...

badebay 07-16-2008 10:14 AM

Seems very ironic really. there upsizing and were downsizing. our goverment here has slapped a huge tax on gas guzzlers like 4x4 s. i had one for a year. i got rid of it as tax was a pain. glad i did as it did about 25 miles a gallon. now i have a zippy nissan . it does about 39 40 round town/ and 55 on a run. smallest engine and tax is lowest band. but it still does 80 90 mph on the freeway. the seats collapse and it turns into a small van. happy hatch.

highwhey 07-16-2008 10:38 AM

Gas is still cheap in Mexico. After currency conversion it's about 3.20 US Dollars

topazcorp 07-16-2008 12:15 PM

In Venezuela the gallon is selling for 0.12$

CNN/Money: Global gas prices

TMiles 07-16-2008 12:17 PM

both Mexico an Venezuela subsidy gas prices......

highwhey 07-16-2008 12:55 PM

I just wonder how high prices will reach...I sure as hell am not going to pay 10$/gal. I'll probably switch to bio-diesel- just waiting till Nissan releases the diesel version of Titan. :D

HairyOldEbayer 07-16-2008 01:00 PM

Ah yes, whatever happened to the 1978 ford fiestas that got 45 mpg and filled up their 13.5 gallon tanks for $7?

Cost to travel 100 miles? about $1

http://i34.tinypic.com/15weycz.jpg

.

411guru 07-16-2008 04:59 PM

Even tho it cost me $65 to fill up, when I think how much other countries pay, its nothing. I'm glad its this much as it makes people abandon house sized SUVs that were so popular here. You can barely give away them now lol. What good is a SUV? Oh I can drive thru mountains, and I can plow thru snow. I can move a sofa. I an fit 18 people. I get 5 miles a gallon but its all good. How many times does it snow a year? Do you climb a mountain pass every day to work? Do you move a sofa every week? Come on! I'm sorry I just hate SUVs with a passion. People who drive these didn't give a crap about the environment when gas was $1.50 a gallon.
