Tracey McGrady comes to mind. Lebron like talent and 2-3 really good years and the rest just good years. Had the potential for 10-12 great years easily.

Another who comes to mind is Vince Carter.

Marvin "Bad News" Barnes is probably number one. A bit before my time but you can tell that man had all the talent in the world.

Just thought of someone my brothers talked about a lot.

Ralph Sampson.

OMG. Had Hakeem and a healthy Sampson played together 5 or 10 years. As great as Jordan was. That Houston Rockets team was positioned to be unbelievable. It is so hard to get one true center in the NBA. To get a Talent like Sampson then have maybe the most athletic Big Man who played a true Center/PF like Olajuwon. Not one of these finesse guys like Dirk/Garnett.

I remember how good that Spurs team was with an Old David Robinson and a Young Duncan. Two young guys like that for the Rockets who did make the Finals early on. I agree 100%. Sampson is probably the biggest what could have been in my opinion.

You're right vogeltron - that Houston Rockets team had so much potential to be a dynasty

Was John Lucas on that team Vog?

Malone and Stockton were the best duo that I could remember but never had any talent around them. Played no defense.

re: NBA Followers & other Ball sports (NCAA too)

Good old Utah Jazz - pushing up proper...good reference Sandy - sad that the duo could never win a championship ring...

Biggest underachiever to me I could remember was Shawn Kemp.

Guy could put a quarter on the top of backboard glass, but had little desire to take advantage of his athletic ability.

At his peak, with Gary Payton, they took arguably the best team ever (a 72 win Bulls team) to 6 games before losing.

I agree Shawn kemp was the man but he was a bit lazy.

I liked the penny and shaq combo a lot but they just didn't have enough to win a championship.

I usually stay away from any sport's all star games. Just not as interesting because of the lack of intensity that is in the regular season.

Although, I did catch a commercial while flipping through the channel during a timeout.

It's the one with James Harden and Anthony Davis where Harden was putting on a 'brow' disguise so ppl wouldn't recognize him. To funny, I nearly fell off the couch.

Some really good young stars in the NBA now.

The all star game needs to be changed.

The dunk contest is getting boring and the 3pt shooting as well.

They need to replace those with something else.

The skills competition was not great either.

Come on NBA lets do something different for a change.

rsot 02-18-2014 05:52 AM

re: NBA Followers & other Ball sports (NCAA too)

That dunk contest format was craptacular - fail.

Anyone ever wonder what the NBA would be like without Lebron right now?

Like Magic/Bird and then Jordon NBA was dying a slow death again then came Lebron.

Now we have many future stars to look forward to coming up behind Lebron and a few of those others.

Still good but plagued by injuries at the moment.

He is but he is no Lebron James. Talented but does not have the total skills of James. Only a handful has ever had the skills James has. James actually has more overall skills then even Jordon but we need to see many more years of it to put him on the same pedestal as Jordon.

If he puts in 5-6 more years of greatness, clutch plays and does what he is doing he can pass Jordon as the best ever I believe.

James is quite the all-round player - Kobe just has the ring count so far...still has skills but he is getting beyond his years

Rings are great but many great players never got a single one.

Kobe has been blessed with talent around him just like Jordon had.

James spent what 5-6 years in Cleveland with no talent around him at all. To me wasted years.

Rumours of Cleveland trying to court him back - yes, those were wasted years.

Not going to happen unless they can pull off a major blockbuster to get him some teammates.

Wade will not last much longer as his injuries are piling up. I can see them winning one more in Miami and then without Wade they will need a Wade caliber player or Lebron walks.

I think the biggest question mark of all time would have been Len Bias. I was thinking about what could have been Baskeball players that during my multiple 10 hours of driving last week.

I remember him because I was a teen and in Florida with my family on vacation when he died. My Dad got up early and went down to get the newspaper and was telling my brothers he had died and he was going to make I believe the Celtics even better.

If Lebron James even a young one played with a Shaq in his prime it would have been game over. Kobe is a very good player. But the pure lack of talent Cleveland put around him. It was absolutely inexcusable. You have one of the best players out there and it was like Cleveland wanted to nickle and dime.

Reminds me of regardless of you opinion of the man. But Barry Bonds on the Giants. They let Jeff Kent go and squandered an opportunity to win by nickle and dimming hoping for cheap replacements. Exact thing that happened with Lebron in Cleveland. MO Williams broken down Antwan Jamison and Shaq at the very end. Cavaliers deserve to suck as much as I am concerned.

Jordan is by far the greatest I have seen. I think of the modern televised era. He had good role players around him. But Pippen, and all these other guys were made much better because of him. You can see the difference when he went to play Baseball. Lebron carried the entire Cavs team. He left and they went from Worst to absolute dead last.

Pippen was solid support cast - they even added in Rodman for a bit

Yes sandy it was fun. Tickets were very cheap so I couldn't pass up.

The magic had a good game tonight beating the Knicks in double OT.
