And the Jays are back. BIG TIME.
Heres hoping this is the start of a new winning streak.
And heres hoping to again experience the victory celebrations in the streets of Toronto we had back in '93 when they won back to back world series :)

The Jays have a great home field advantage much like the Rockies. They are loaded with talent grabbing the entire Marlins free agency dream team a few years ago. Plus the Melk man on PEDs or not.

Tigers have a solid team granted the bullpen doesn't come in. A's win lots of regular season games but can't put it together in the post season. I said it before. I would take the Jays to win the AL East. They are the most complete team and have the most going for them.

I will call it right now. I foresee a Giants vs Jays World Series. Many months to play and lots of teams still in the mix. You never know what will happen in postseason. But in m opinion these are the two teams playing the best baseball in each league.

Who would have though Hudson would have had a CY type season at 38 thus far. And Moorse production like this.

Jays making it to the World Series would rock - still long season ahead though and they tend to fizzle...

I agree. Making it to the playoffs is key #1. Winning the division is also important give the sudden death Wild Card game. However, in baseball just about more than any sport especially in the first 5 game series. Having a top record in baseball doesn't always mean that much it certainly hasn't the past 5 or more years.

A's keep winning too. You look at their team and scratch their head as to how they play so good. They lose two starters to Tommy John before the season starts and plug in Jessie Chavez and Drew Pomeranz. They don't miss a freaking beat.

I know Bob Melvin is a solid manager but what Billy Beane has done there. I have no idea how he has done it. I know the Saber-metrics and the regression analysis stuff. But honestly, it really is an engima what the has have done so far this year and the last two seasons.

R.I.P. Tony Gwynn - Mr. Padre

Re: 2014 MLB Season getting close

For me I believe one of the best hitters ever.

Have to toss in Pete Rose, Rod Carew, Willie Mays.

Too many others and I too tired to think about them but this is a tragedy.

He had an infection in his jaw and had surgery or something? And ended up dying from cancer from having cancer in his jaw originally?

Really odd.

Always seemed like he was a really good person too. Always spoke like he was excited about life etc, really positive. Too bad.

Yes, now I have read about that.

Snuff.

Ridiculous they allow people to use this stuff knowing it causes cancer.

Had a family member who smoked and died from smoking. Watched them lay and die right in front of our eyes all because of cigarettes. Not a good thing to watch happen.

Agree with you there - just having that available is nonsense...yes it is a dying trend (snuff chewers) but such a waste

God or whatever you believe in. Gives us free will. We have to make personal choices. Some people are users and some people are abusers. I am sure many people knew he used this form of tobacco over many years. For the most part the use of this substance the only danger largely is upon themselves. They will have to live with not doing what they could to bring the dangers to his attention. We all have Demons. For some people it is over indulging in food, etc. Go tell that person he can't eat certain items anymore. At some point you must take control of your own life. I am very sad to see such a great individual pass away. Hopefully it is a message to future generations of the dangers of chewing tobacco. With freedom comes great responsibility.

None the less it is a sad loss for Baseball and someone who has such a great attitude toward life. Much can be learned from Mr. Gwynn both good and bad.

Went to TGI Fridays for dinner tonight and who was sitting the across from us?

Wade Boggs

former Red Sox great!

100s of people in the place and only my DH recognized him.

Not often do we see many celebs out eating as people wont leave them alone.

How was he looking Sandy? He was a solid player back in the day - you're right...must have been a restaurant packed with ppl who perhaps weren't the most knowledgeable of baseball fans...

Boggs, McGriff and Canseco. What a bust those guys were in Tampa Bay.

Sandy D 06-21-2014 02:12 PM

Re: 2014 MLB Season getting close

They were all at the end of their careers when they went to Tampa.

Canseco was a total bust his entire career. The fly ball that hit him in the head is a must see video.

Boggs, well not too shabby of stats.

12× All-Star (1985–1996)
World Series champion (1996)
2× Gold Glove Award (1994, 1995)
8× Silver Slugger Award (1983, 1986–1989, 1991, 1993, 1994)
5× AL batting champion (1983, 1985–1988)

Batting average .328
Hits 3,010
Home runs 118
Runs batted in 1,014

He has aged a lot, still looks in shape.

I asked the waiter if he knew who that was and he said no. I said you just wanted on Wade Boggs, he about died as Boggs was his Dads favorite player.

He said, well he tips great. Showed me three 20.00 bills for 4 people.

We used to come to Florida years back to Spring Training and knew all the spots where the players would go after the game to eat. Lots of fun back then.

Re: 2014 MLB Season getting close

I am not saying there were all busts. Even Canseco had some big years with the A's. McGriff has a solid career. I just remember Tampa bringing them in near the end of their careers and it was a huge bust. Paid Mo Vaughn big money too when he was fat and out of shape.

Reminds me of Pablo Sandavol. Mo Vaughn was an absolute stud with Red Sox. Ate himself out of baseball. Even Tony Gwynn peace be upon him. Had Gwynn stayed in shape his entire career I think he could have played to 45 like Julio Franco slap hitting the ball to the opposite field.

Wow, my Giants have gone in the crapper. Romo has gone to crap. Whenever Pagan goes out the team tanks. I guess he is the Angel in the outfield. They was they are going isn't good. I just hope adversity builds character but it is not looking good right now.

Big dips in some teams - Jays have been clinging on to the lead but not convincingly.

Astros have been surprising...
