Warning about Intuit Go Payment card scanner
I had planned to do some festivals this summer and wanted to get a card scanner so I could take debit/credit cards. I initially looked into paypal but decided to go with the intuit go payment, when I signed up I was under the impression that it charged the percentage fee of each transaction, nowhere did it mention any sort of monthly fees or subscriptions, it was supposed to be a "pay as you go" kinda thing.
Well I log into paypal this morning to see that my withdrawal to my bank account was reversed, I go to see why and my capital one account (formerly the ING) had been closed due to a $12.95 charge that kept trying to process, I don't keep money in there usually I just transfer my ebay money into it from time to time, at any rate after so many attempts to get money out of an empty account cap 1 closed the account.
I freaked out because I didn't know what the charge was from in the first place, I go to my email and I find a collections case notice from Intuit for $37.95, $12.95 monthly fee and $25 fee for not being able to process it. I was fuming! I called them and demanded to know why they were trying to take $12.95 from my account since I had never used the card scanner yet, she said that was the monthly fee but not to worry that all those fees had been waived.
I then ask why I was being charged a fee that was never mentioned when signing up, she said the account was "automatically upgraded" and that if I wanted to go back to a pay as you go account that I could just log in online and reopen it within 5 months. So basically if you sign up for the "pay only when you use it" plan they will automatically "upgrade" your plan to a 12.95 a month plan. Which has now cost me my paypal linked bank account.
Long story short if you sign up for the untuit and aren't using it right away keep an eye on your accounts for any "automatic upgrades" and changes they make without you knowing about it.
