Default Mexican Stores - Apple Products

Personally, Apple isn't for me, and I like PCs, but i'm looking to get this for a gift. Does anyone know what the prices are like for Apple products in Mexico? I'm looking to get a MacBook Air 13" and after researching found that in the UK prices are usually around 40% higher, and have found some cheaper ones on eBay from US sellers to confirm this.

I could purchase from US sellers, on eBay, but would have to wait a week+ and potentially have to pay 100s in import charges. I know sellers can be contacted to mark items are gifts, but I have only done this once, and can cause trouble if caught. If I asked people they could report me on eBay too.

My question(s):

Are the prices in Mexico for these products the same as the US?
Do any online stores/normal stores exist that deliver that offer these products?

(I will be in Mexico soon for a month)

Check with APPLE before making an international purchase to ensure you have 'local' warranty.

That's true. I didn't think of that, but maybe it's worth saving £200-250 than to have a warranty.

Edit: Apparently their warranty is global.

Should something go wrong, the repairs could be more than your savings.

Did you get that confirmation from the web or elsewhere?

I am asking because it might be prudent to have something in writing from Apple.

You may go to a shop in Mexico that is selling 'grey imports' or phakes.

Please be careful with whatever you do. Would not like anything to go sour.

Apple - One Year Limited Warranty - Worldwide

I was looking to buy from big stores, or websites like our equivalent of amazon etc or an official Apple store. I would be staying in the city, and not in a holiday location with dodgy stores.

Thank you for your concerns, though.

When it comes to Apple, I would spend the extra money and not try to buy from a cheaper source. Apple does not normally discount their products and there are a ton of phakes out there. You could save a couple of hundred dollars but end up with a worthless piece of garbage.

I understand that, but what I mean't is to buy from an official Apple store or big retailer. The prices in the UK are on average 40% higher. You might not be aware, but when products are made in the US and sold in the UK, they just change the $ to £ and charge us a fortune. I'm sure UK users can confirm that.

Whereabout will you be?

There is an excellent APPLE shop at the International Airport in Mexico City.

You might get duty free too.

The cheapest price you will get is the US price. You act like travelling to some third world country is going to get you 50% off genuine Ap.ple products.

That's friggin' hilarious.

Stick to the big retailers as discussed - the duty free shop may be somewhat cheaper but rarely is there huge differences but at least you are trying
