Dymo label printer
 

Thinking of getting one of these, anyone has one?

Also is it true the ink NEVER runs out? or does it need some other parts replaced or something?

You missed one key word in the subject line; THERMAL - never uses ink.

I have one and it runs like a power horse.

I don't have it.

As I understand it, you don't need ink or toner, just some DYMO label rolls.

It does not use ink so no ink to run out of.

Parts can stop working, like anything else, but generally they are great little machines that keep going.

I understand its thermal and no ink required.

1. whats the difference between thermal and ink, I mean how on earth can you print using thermal, thermal what? there must be some black residue or something being applied?

2. why dont they turn office/home inkjet printers into thermal? no more running out cartridges right?

3. how will it recognise if you dont but the original dymo brand labels inside? isnt it like saying putting a non-branded A4 paper into your printer?

I have one and it's great. Thermal uses heat. Exactly like till receipts etc.

Copy labels are fine

Cost main factor is large thermal printers


Would love to set mine up on a network and print from Android app etc but don't think you can

I have heard zebra brand allows any label but dymo recognises its not the right brand and refuses to print.

I like things to look aesthetically pleasing, zebra looks ancient hence why im inclined to invest in a dymo.

Do they develop faults regularly? or are they quite stable?

I have a HP printer, no problems what so ever...so I hope these are similar...

1 - Just think of it as burning the paper in a controlled way
2 - Most people who use a printer want a range of colours. Cannot have a colour thermal printer, most you can have is a two tone thermal printer. Personally I would love a thermal printer to replace my black and white laser printer.

yes and shipping labels, so you dont have to write each by hand or allign it carefully before printing using a normal printer. It just prints directly onto a self adhesive label to use straight away.

You just need a label printer + labels = Done. No Ink etc.

After watching that video im against having a thermal printer replace a normal inkjet/laser printer, because the paper would be different, the quality of print wont be so good, text on documents of paper will fade eventually as receipts do.

But I hope as technology advances, we find an alternative to INK. It is ridiculous how expensive official HP cartridges are, especially laser cartridges.

I get the feeling paper/ink will disappear from our lives before an alternative to ink is found...(#technologytakesovertheworld)

I think I will buy one of these. I have been considering label printing for a while now, but didn't want to spend too much, but for 50 it's nothing.

If you print a lot of labels it is a cost effective solution, less time consuming as well. Which are you going to buy the zebra one or dymo?

Just bought the Dymo. It's due to come on Monday. It's cheaper to write it myself no matter how many items i'm selling. Currently averaging around 100 a week now. Pens cost nothing, like 10p at most but I think a label printer looks nicer and is easier to just copy and paste an address and printing it.

I didn't look into it so much in the past because I really hate printers, they always mess up on me. The need for ink is really annoying too, but discovering that these don't use ink I think it's much better (and cheaper).

The fact the printer is around 52-56 on eBay and that you get 100s of free labels of different sizes to try out means it's a good deal in my opinion.

I can't justify 100s on a printer, but 50 quid is acceptable.

Edit: I'm also hoping it means royal mail will lose less packages. My hand writing is very neat and the guy at the post office never has an issue when doing recorded deliveries, but i'm hoping that this gives them less of an excuse losing my normal large letter packages.

I always use zebra printers. Must have printed a half million labels or more on them. Very little failure. Every once in a while you have to change a roller......far and away more reliable than a standard printer. A label printer would last most people a lifetime.

That's promising to hear. The amount of issues I had with printers during my school/college/university days. Pain in the arse most of them. They're hard to troubleshoot and not much can be done, unlike computers.

I will post about the printer on Monday when it arrives.

@Play Thank you for the interest. As some members here have mentioned, the key to thermal printing is that the labels have a special coating that reacts to heat thus allowing to print without ink. This is also the reason why over a long time the labels begin to fade.

When hand writing in sceptical as I might write the wrong door number or postcode... funnily enough I have ALWAYS printed labels, two weeks ago ink ran out, hand wrote a label, lost in the post... My luck huh.

Also writing out each label is very time consuming, especially if your sitting and doing a large quantity.

A good feature, not sure if dymo support, just copy and paste a bunch of addresses and it prints the entire thing out rather than doing it individually as some videos on youtube show.

I will let you know once it has arrived. Looks like the seller hasn't dispatched it even though it said it would be today via 24 hour courier, so I was expecting it on Monday at the latest, but now that might not happen.

I have not had great success with batch printing unless it is identical items and all same weight, etc... but that may be based on my system. I should investigate further. I know some people print blind with use of a VA. I can only assume they are also printing an invoice for each label and that may solve the issues I have had batch printing in the past.
