Re: Black Friday ! Your Wishlist ?

A home for every homeless child.
A home for every homeless dog and cat.
Enough food - delicious food - to feed everyone.
Enough pet food - delicious pet food - for all of the dogs and cats.
Jobs for those who are still looking.
A little extra money for struggling parents.
Christmas gifts for poor children who have little.
Friends for those who have few.
Holiday joy and cheer for the elderly confined to nursing homes.
Holiday joy and cheer for those confined to a hospital bed.
A reprieve for all of the homeless animals facing euthanasia.
A better life for animals raised for food, who should be treated as humanely as possible.
A bigger heart for those who would hurt others, especially our politicians.
An end to bullying, especially where children are concerned.
Hope for those who are facing terrible circumstances.

Somehow, trinkets no longer mean anything to me. Most of us already have too many trinkets. I wish people would realize that we are all in this together and help each other. Help to shovel the elderly person's driveway. Bring unwanted food to a food pantry rather than simply throwing it out. Stop demonizing the poor - most of them are not poor because they want to be, despite what politicians tell you. Take care of yourself, but also think of others - it is not necessary for everyone else to lose if you win. If people would start working to help each other, rather than working to harm others this would be a much better world.

Buzz kill. :shhh:

Don't mean to sound harsh I agree with you. We live in a material world..
I heard from a old fellow co-worker that holidays are for the rich. If you think about it, thats kinda what its becoming. I mean I'm pretty sure macys is doing black "friday" all day thursday, silly. I see so many commericals saying "black friday starts now" ...its all about beating the comptention which leads to all this mess.

We all benefit from it don't get me wrong. And honestly unless you are really doing all that you said its silly to down someone who wants stuff, heck I want stuff!!

I actually want a bose system like OP, beats headphones...Keep in mind I work my ass off for it. Not sure why I even went there and said what I said, just saying.

BTW OP what was the deal last year?? Sounds like you checked it out last year..I want the expesive one, I think it costs normally like 599.99, ouch :s

Haha me too! I guess we are creeping up there in age. Part of that last generation growing up before everyone had a Cell Phone. Parents had to leave the number of the restaurant they went to. Pay Phones still existed. Had to have that second home telephone line for the Dial Up Internet. Lol.

I promise you if you hear that dial up connection it will take you back!!!!!!

I am actually still on AIM (Aol Instant Messenger). Use to have like 60 friends. I got one active one now. Hahaha.

Lol, I used Dial up for one account up to a year ago. I had to drink soo much beer to get through the basic operations it no longer worked out. None the less Dial up is still viable. But with today's web pages. You must have patience.

I'm not sure what you want to know. The people on the forum tend to be younger. When I was younger, I wanted a lot of stuff too. In particular, I remember the Sony Walkman (kind of like an early version of the iPod), the Atari Game System (kind of like an Xbox or PSP), a Laserdisc player (like DVD's, but the size of records, and you had to flip the discs and change the discs several times to get through a movie) and some other stuff.

Now, at 48, I have most of the stuff that I want. As you get older, your priorities and wants change. You realize that most of what is being sold is over-hyped, and while it might be NICE, it is really not that much different from what you already have. For example, someone said they wanted a Bose sound system. I have one and they ARE nice, there is no doubt about it. But they are not all that much better in quality than JVC and Sony. YES, the sound IS better, but not by THAT MUCH! It isn't like the difference between a weak AM radio signal and a CD.

I didn't mean to be a buzzkill, I didn't mean to imply that anyone who wants something is greedy or anything. It is OK to want stuff! If it were not for that, none of us would be selling on eBay (or anywhere else for that matter). I am NOT a communist or anything like that.

It is just that as I enter the Fall season of my life, I see a lot of pain and suffering in the world, and a lot of injustice. And it doesn't have to be this way! If a little 6 year old girl with poor parents gets a couple of presents under her tree, it doesn't mean that you have to give up your Bose sound system. If some dogs and cats find a new home and a loving family this Christmas it doesn't take away from anything that you have. In the US, we routinely throw away 20% or more of the food we buy. I'll bet a lot of hungry people would appreciate that food. In order for them to have something, it does not necessarily mean that you have to accept less.

You guys started the tread and asked for wishlists. So I gave you mine.

Yep I was around 10-14 during the dial up period. Haha good ol AOL. I remember the first time using IE and connecting the internet automatically, surreal expierence. It was like just snap your fingers and your connected to the world..now most of us just take it for granted.

I really never shopped deals on cyber monday. Anybody here have good reccomendations on sites that had great deals last year? I imagine obviously Amazon, but ...anyothers???

jeffweico 11-23-2014 11:58 AM

Re: Black Friday ! Your Wishlist ?

Amazon. Walmart had some too. The thing is, no CyberMonday sales are likely to be as good as the Black Friday sales because too many people are trying to get them. They either sell out in 2 seconds or they have to put something in place like a lottery system. Most retailers don't want to bother with it.

But good deals are out there. Have you ever gone to bradsdeals.com? It is not Black Monday, but they have lists of a lot of awesome online deals. No, I don't own the site, nor do I know who does - just to be clear - I just find some good stuff on there from time to time. They are good for things like housewares. I got a set of dishes from Macy's for 8 people for $23 and free shipping and these were QUALITY dishes, not the cheapie K-mart kind. They were a closeout, but we like the pattern.

Ahh... yes... Newegg and DHGATE have some NICE ONES! But thy can sometimes be hard to get. Still, I guess that is a part of the game. Hell, at least you won't get SHOT or beaten up over it! I'm sure we will see examples of that this year, just like every other year.

Even though I try to not indulge in too many material things... it's a sick sick habit of wanting the best (especially when it comes to technology) and things I'm passionate about such as paintball or working online (software and online services).

If there is something that will help me one way or another.. that's sometimes enough justification for it's purchase.

I can tell you a Playstation 4 is in my near future.. :p

I like big things like houses and cars..small things do not impress me, take them or leave them, houses too full of STUFF.....I agree more time, health, happiness more important....

but I am going on my 2nd shopping trip this week, going to get pushed and trampled down in Oxford st by tourists....

Am I the only one here that when they want something they just get it? I have never shopped a sale or anything like that.
I appreciate my customers who do, but it is not my style per say. If I want something I get it. I may shop around, but I just buy it, etc..

Stuff is not important to me, but I never want something or wish for saomething as I already stated. I like experiences. Trips, travel, etc...
