sicko
Just seen sicko, by Michael Moore, it was on cable when I had some freetime yesterday. I was shocked at the way US citizens are denied health insurance,
kicked out of hospital if they are in the wrong one for their insurance, or have lifesaving treatment denied by HMOs for being experimental or even more bizarre reasons. The guy who had to choose between his sawn off fingers!
BUT they showed Canada, UK and france as example of NHS where everything is free. I dont know about Canada, but I know france has a good health service, they give tummy tucks and helper staff to ladies after a baby.
The UK is probably good in the US eyes but as with everything when you get to know it, you see all the cracks and faults. Up until recently you couldnt
have private cancer or other treatment along with NHS treatent or they would stop your NHS treatment and/or make you pay for it. Patients are routinely on the news programmes going to the High Court to get NHS decisions overruled, the last thing they need at that vunerable time.
As for insurance companies they are the same here, terms and conditions, pre-existing, an all the rest of it. Many middle class Brits have private health insurance, as they dont want to wait on the NHS or want better treatment.
None of these countries is perfect, or completely socialist. I mean over here 5% of kids are educated privately, and subsequently giving them 40%of the college places in the statistics. Unlike the rest of Europe but In the rest of Europe almost everyone can go to university, you should see the size of the lecture classes and they get years and years to finish, its not unsual to piddle arount for 7 years whilst living at home with mamma!
That conversation between Nixon and the kaiser guy, was eye-opening though....
