Default What linux OS for stealth VM?

Hi folks,

I've run into my first issue purchasing quantity limited goods on Amazon.

I am going to set up a VM now to create a new stealth buying account. I will track the WAN IP addresses that I use along with make all purchases via Gift Card

I'm just wondering which linux distro I should go with. I'm looking for lightweight in terms of RAM and HD footprint.

Many thanks

The only linux version I have any real experience with is Ubuntu, which I think would work fine for your needs. Ubuntu has an extensive graphical interface though so you may be better off with a lighter-weight distribution of Linux.

Personally I prefer Windows XP for my VM's. XP is very lightweight and much easier to configure than Linux, especially when it comes to network access. Is there any particular reason you've decided to use Linux?

Thanks for quick response.

I would prefer Windows also for convenience but I want a lighter RAM/HD footprint. Also, Linux VMs should be easy to duplicate without fear of having silly Windows licence issues.

Yea I though about Ubuntu but it's gone very heavy in recent years. I'm stuck for time now but I may go for a server edition and install a lightweight windows manager and Chrome.

I hate chrome, it's so useless. And I'm not a huge fan of Linux because something as simple as installing a program is a long drawn-out process in Linux.

I use the same XP .iso file every time I create a new VM. Many forum members will clone their first XP VM (before doing any stealth configuration), which makes things even easier. The version of XP I use is stripped down to just the essentials. I think the ISO is like 550mb. Once I install XP, I disable graphical settings and remove any components I don't need to make it even more lightweight.

I create all of my VM's with 1gb RAM and 10gb HDD, and I never run more than 2 at the same time. 1gb RAM is a lot for XP, so my VM's run seamlessly. In fact, they could easily run with 512mb RAM.
