EU citizen buying a product from UK. [Buyer protection?]

Hello,

I am located in EU country and I am planning to buy equipment from UK. Eventhough I have had several recommendations toward this seller, I do not feel fully comfortable due to holes in their terms and conditions.

Lets say the seller refuses to do the warranty routine, or perhaps the seller will not ship the order after payment. I would like to know if there is any EU, UK protection for buyers [from EU another country]?

Cheers

it depends on who you deal with...

for item not received, then paypal might be a god bet, same with credit card...I prefer paypal for this though....quicker

but warranties are really only for big companies and stores you buy from...

in the UK you have the sale of goods and services act, which gives you 1 year plus. The goods must be fit for purpose and last as such, look it up, as rules have changed recently, and can go via arbitration before needing to go through small claims court....none of this is instant, and I would not recommend the hassle....

a company may only care if it affects their reputation, so you always have the media threat - it always works for me, if done right....

but forget a long-term warranty if buying from a private individual via paypal.

you have chargebacks for up to 6 months via credit card, if you want that option, do not use the card via paypal, as I heard of paypal dispute timeframes superceding and diminishing the card rights....

As you're from the same country as me...
Probably you've heard some stories when certain e-shops were/are made specifically for fraudulent purposes.
So that means they are pretty well prepared their "escape" and stealth plans as even legal authorities has some real digging to do to connect the dots and etc.

So imagine if you happen to buy from that kind of shop internationally...

Of course, as oompaloompa said -- you get certain credit card protection and of course paypal protection if you're using that. :)
