Despite all this that everyone has commented to this elongated thread, the most important thing to have happened recently is the gun laws are being tightened up, despite what all the gun lobbyists have been clamouring for, the laws are changing, at last some common sense is prevailing.

We all know murder is against the law (the reason for these gun bills) and since it's against the law, NO ONE ever murders anyone! Yup! Just write it down somewhere it it will solve everything! Because psychopaths being told they can't LEGALLY purchase a firearm will TOTALLY make them give up on obtaining one! :pound: :pound: :pound:

Making it harder for a psychopath/unhinged person to obtain a gun may well not stop 4/5

Even if it does stop 1 in 5 though, surely that is a good thing?

I do think gun reforms in the US are a bit pointless though. Even if you cannot buy a gun from a store you can pop down to a garage sale and get one or order the parts and just make one yourself.

A start to what? The only thing it will stop is law abiding citizens. CRIMINALS don't obey the law, by definition. Just like alcohol, if they make it illegal, all that will occur is normal people become lawbreakers, and the gangs will control the flow and the power. You can't undo the millions of guns already here.

If they made owning a firearm a felony offense tomorrow, only law abiding people would give up their guns. Criminals would then have a hey day and do whatever they wanted to the disarmed populace. The only "gun control" needed here is more armed people.

Taking guns away from people will NOT solve anything, look at countries like Norway, Finland, Germany, France and Denmark, all countries with heavy gun ownership, posted the lowest murder rates compared to "gun-light" developed nations, for example, Germany's murder rate was one-ninth that of Luxembourg, where the law prohibits civilian ownership of handguns and gun ownership is VERY rare. These are FACTS EASILY verifiable.

That's not to say that more guns in civilian hands equals a lower murder rate, but an argument can surly be made. The truth is that ANYONE who wants a gun, will get a gun, plain and simple. Terrorists often use the most DIFFICULT to obtain substances like C4 or Semtex (Plastic Explosives) in some of the tightest counties in order to carry out the most horrible acts of terrorism.

The truth is that it is misleading for Politicians to take an act of terrorism like the string that the world has recently experienced and try to suggest that it could have some how have been lessoned if there were less guns in the hands of civilians, THATS the real crime.

You need a special licence to own a gun in Germany. Its pretty different to the US model.

For anything that is considered lethal you have to prove expert knowledge, a genuine need for a gun and undergo a deep background check.

For a small arms permit (this lets you own a non lethal gas pistol) you still need to demonstrate that you are trustworthy and able to control the weapon

German gun ownership while high is about 1/4 per 100 people compared to the USA (its 30 guns per 100 in Germany and 112 guns per 100 in the USA)

Luxembourg is a very very small nation (around 500,000 population) which always throws stats off when comparing it to a country with a population of 80 million. It is also worth noting that in Luxembourg gun ownership is not that low. 15 guns per 100 people

When you compare death by guns of the 2 countries

Luxembourg has 9 deaths in 2012
Germany had 819 deaths in 2012

When population is taken into account that means Lux has a rating of 1.7 per 100,000 and Germany has a rating of 1.01 per 100,000

A single death by Luxembourg is equal to 180 in Germany. The population levels are just way too far apart for any really meaningful comparison

Do the same calculation for a 10 year period, which I did some time ago, and also do France, Great Britain and Italy and you will get a clearer picture while I do not remember the exact numbers, I do remember that the difference was negligible. I personally did 1990-2000 when I was calculated it.

Your right, remind me again how many times you have been harassed by Police officers because of what you were driving or the color of your skin, or being in the wrong neighborhood? I'm sure it's been more than 3 or 4. Ever have an officer put a gun in your face in front of your child, and then have to explain to said child why the officer did what he did? point is there are bad cops and good cops. I don't hate cops, there are excellent police officers out there.

It's obvious that some individuals are highly susceptible to manipulation by the media and/or community activists....that's all I'm saying.

The leaders of this hate faction need to stop spewing violent rhetoric. Cops have killed unarmed white people MANY, MANY TIMES, but no one cares about that.

Violence against ANY group should be condemned, but the hatred of "all cops" is no better than the hatred of "all blacks" or "all Mexicans" or "all whites" or "all Americans".

Both RNC and DNC. Protests are planned at both, some by Bernie Sanders supporters, and the Dems are spending 800,000 USD to disrupt the RNC with people handing out "barf bags" and nose clips etc. It's become a joke.

Does any of this matter? November is really the only poll that counts. I can't stand politics anymore. It has become toxic, lying is now the norm, worse than that, lies are accepted as facts and it just gets sleazier by the day.

I've had to tune it out, I can't stomach it anymore.

So true, but it is really the American Electorate that is responsible, in the end it is that very electorate that votes liar's and scandal ridden Politicians into office.

Just imagine a country where a clean "Virgin" Politician (If such a person even exists) is given an opportunity to represent the electorate in whatever capacity, and that Politician then violates the electorates trust by lying, misrepresenting, "spinning" causing a scandal, ect, ect, and the price that Politician pays by losing the electorates trust and NEVER getting elected into ANY office EVER again.

What kind of country do you think that we would have if the American electorate acted like that?

Although I disagree with a lot of Sanders policy's, one thing that I will say is he COMPLETELY believes in them, and did NOT just adopt them as Hillary was forced to. That makes Sanders an HONEST politician, VERY rare these days.

Although Hillary "adopted" some of Bernie's positions, like now being AGAINST TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) Im certain that there is NO WAY that she will stick to the positions that she adopted, ESPECIALLY TPP, (Hillary helped create TPP). That is what makes Hillary untrustworthy. It is that quality that separates Hillary from Bernie.

what about the zero tax declared by Trump, I read about when he was in business a few years back and when the authorities questioned it/called it in, he set the lawyers on to them....stuff like that annoys me, as the 'little people' taxpayers cannot do that...

she comes across as f ake, with her crowd pointing antics and shouting her words....

personally I think both candidates are crooks, and I would find them both hard to vote for, dont envy that choice....

Here's what I know:

She's a puppet. She was bought and sold and bought again a LONG time ago. She owes BILLIONS in political favors. EVEN IF I thought she was a good candidate. EVEN IF I thought her policies were worth anything....I wouldn't TRUST her to implement them.

Time and time again we see politicians promise the world and give us the opposite when they arrive. I don't think it's because they are simply liars, but rather that they are held by the balls by their donors. Trump is not.
