Default Buyer Disputes / Chargeback Section

A place on the forum for people to discuss buyer disputes, how to avoid and resolve and share people's experiences.

Post if you're in favor of this!

This is an excellent idea but I'm not too sure it would work out on this forum as I haven't seen many threads relating to charge backs or disputes. There are not alot of ways in which you can solve disputes, other than refunding the other person...

There are many ways in which to solve and prevent disputes. Perhaps people getting together and as people talk more about what traps they're falling into, how to solve and how to prevent it could help a lot of people. You could argue there's really only one way to ship, but there's so many more issues when you get beneath the surface and we have a forum for that. Disputes are something everybody here has to deal with from time to time.

Yeah disputes are definitely something that all sellers on all platforms experience, and knowing how to handle them and prevent them is vital. So I agree a section would be useful for people who aren't familiar on how to be prepared in case of a dispute and how to properly handle a dispute in the most advantageous way. Good suggestion.

I like the idea, but I think people are already discussing this in other areas of the forum.

Doesn't hurt to move it to it's own section, though.

It might be better to call it something more general like "fraud prevention" because I can think of a lot of other annoying stuff that buyers (and don't forget other sellers!) will try and do to give you the shaft besides just chargebacks. Also I agree with the others that it doesn't seem like chargebacks by themselves are talked about very much here, although I haven't been posting much here at all until very recently.

It would be better to have a place for it than random threads popping up saying "HELP being scammed" "Have I got a chance...". It's a side that needs to be addressed.

This is why we need it! I'm sick of hearing people say "buyer always wins" "chalk another one up to the scammers".

I've only lost ONE dispute. Check out the Chargebacks thread in the link in my signature link - that's just a very basic outline. There's a lot more to winning and preventing disputes and chargebacks than just throwing in the towel every time someone pulls it, because there'll be no end to it. It can be prevented and won.

For that to happen, people need to talk about it and share their experiences, what they've fallen for, why they've lost, how they've won, how they can prevent such things from happening again.

There are tons of ways to win or beat them. And on a normal playing field lots could be done. And there is always room for ideas for sure.

But the problem will remain constant:

*We can not stop them from giving a negative.
*The buyer protection is laid out so there is no real fighting back

In many cases we have to take the lump one way or another. Stand your ground and fight and lose the money and/or the account. Thats a reality.

Its not about right or wrong. The system is bent heavily. And it almost always boils down to whats best for the money maker. Not the individual deal.

I've done some nasty things to get my money back because I don't like to be ripped off. But some times the overall long term cost wasn't worth it at all.

They are not smarter then us. They just have an easy system to play with is all....

Rules is rules.... sure. The way around rules laid out for us sellers is to just be a salesperson. In other words, if someone sends you a threatening pm or email, it's all about social engineering in my opinion. You have to imagine your end result and what you have to do to get there. This includes the bank over the phone, ebay, customers, your landlord, everyone!

Default great idea

@MadSam
I think it is a great idea. I just had to refund because I can not prove delivery. We have no choice here in Can unless we sell only within Canada or via expedited and nobody wants to go for this expansive service. something has to be done for sure. great idea!

I have a buyer dispute right now I entered a different tracking number since the lady at the post office changed it and the buyer did a dispute thinking I gave him a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ tracking number same day I shipped! this guy must be new to ebay.
Anyway I cant edit the tracking number since its in dispute and now it does not say shipped it just says "canceled" where it should let me track package.
Did I just lose $180 to this a hole?

Why? Ya, if the tracking is wrong you are screwed. But you can add and change tracking. But maybe not after dispute?

If you already entered the wrong tracking then you will lose the dispute if you don't change it try calling them at paypal

Why don't you enter the tracking number in the dispute res. center where you communicate with the buyer? that should work.

Yeah they ask you to provide information to support your dispute, so just give it to them there. Also according to your story the buyer should receive the item before the dispute is concluded.
