I just added a new feature that when creating a new thread it checks the title of your thread before it's posted to see if there are any similar threads already in existence.
It's kind of hard to explain.
Simply try to create a new thread in the eBay Discussions area, this feature is disabled in Off Topic discussions. And enter a thread title.
Once you click on the text box to enter your thread message you should see a pop up of similar threads if any.
I'm not sure how useful it'll be... but it's in testing right now.
I know of a forum where it got so bad they had the mantra: Every post is a repost.
They set up a new forum with an automated system that hashes the first 30 characters of a post and the image so people will have trouble posting it again. But it's not that bad here.
aspkin, the parameters need to be altered, tbh. Here's an example http://www.aspkin.com/forums/uk-ebay...html#post72355
Newbies are bypassing your hard work. In the UK section alone, there are thread started that are already addressed.

Maybe the Newbies think if they start a Brand New fresh thread, they will get noticed better?
I have to admit that usually when I join a forum and want a question answered I will start a thread right away without even looking at previous threads. Except on this forum
