| | Ways that you save money or frugal living whats the difference between a person who is a cheap skate versus a person that is trying to spend his money in a smart way?
I'll start with one thing makes me frugal,
I used to get $50-60 dollar haircuts every 2 weeks. I always want my hair to be cut with a specific hairstyle.
The problem is, when you move its hard to find a hairstylist that can understand your wants and needs. So an expensive haircut does not mean you will be satisfied. Also you have to schedule ahead of time and deal with showing up on time to your appointment......I don't pay for cheap cuts, long lines and barbers just want you to come in and leave as fast so they dont pay attention to details.
So what did I start doing? I started learning how to cut my own hair.
Yep i bought the shaver at the store for 30 bucks and a hand mirror and ever since then I never went back to another salon.
Also I never have to worry about finding a hairstylist that will give me a specific cut. |

| GreenBean | 04-10-2018 11:03 PM | Re: Ways that you save money or frugal living I collect unused barf bags from the planes when I travel.
I get to use them around here frequently.

| Canadianleaf | 04-11-2018 03:06 AM | Re: Ways that you save money or frugal living I eat other peoples unfinished plates left around food courts and abuse the sample tables at Costco for free calories. I also drink the water that hot dogs were cooked in to not waste precious nutrients.
Kidding.
Real talk though, I also cut my own hair. I've been doing it for years and its not overly complicated. The savings add up. |

I left home. I grew my hair long.
I have learnt to cut/trim that hair to keep it healthy.
I use other methods to buy cryptos.

The Ferrari is a bit better on fuel. Have to save the pennies. |

With the Challenger tank, we stay in rather than travel. Solar power helps considerably.

Anyway I'll give you a serious answer:
- Cut my own hair since high school
- Never finance anything
- Buy foofoo's on purpose when I'm not buying to resell
- Drive a cheap car that's good on gas with low taxes and cheap insurance
- Avoid anything other than auto insurance
- Maximize "free" shipping supplies from couriers using stealth techniques
Can't think of anything else this early. |

Can't think of anything else this early. | Should you have financed a house atleast?........since the house goes up in value.....
solar power savings is somewhat debatable..........the cost of solar panels + installation is quite expensive......
you will have to reach a breakeven point to pay off the solar panels first b4 saving any money......
I am not sold on solar panel tech if you live in a small house with a small electric and gas bill.
If you live in a huge house and in an expensive area where the cost of utilities is really high......their might be some justification to switch to solar panels..... |
| phaz0rz | 04-11-2018 07:47 AM | Re: Ways that you save money or frugal living I've seen too many solar panels fall through people's roof after a year or two. I'm not really sold on them either.
I had the $ available, so I don't understand how committing to a 15/30 year loan where interest would build up and where I'm also required to have HO insurance would have been a better option. Bypassed banks/brokers and saved a ton of money. |

| I could drive out $50-60 in fuel just TRYING to find someone that charges that much to cut a mans hair. And fail.
Maybe get a stylist to cut it, instead of one of your paid whores? lol :nono: |

| City life vs. country life, maybe? IDK. I thought that sounded really expensive too. Best barber in town charges $15 last I checked.

mortgage a property and live in it....assuming you sell within 2 years.....
you get all your money back....plus make a profit within a few years? |

I have seen homeless people just live on the beach and in a van...... |

Otherwise life is great here in Florida, sun, fun and lots of people have been swimming at the pool here since the end of February. :)
Yesterday was bitterly cold... 61 degrees at 8am, 85 degrees at 2PM. Miserable, I tell you. Absolutely miserable. |

At least you have Cubans. We don't have those in SC.
Meh.. maybe there are worse things than a mild climate. </1st world problems> |
Re: Ways that you save money or frugal living I rarely have time to think about ways to save cash, only to make it. Best is to have a wife who will collect those coupons, haggle down the vegetable market etc.
I did recently discover hairwax was more cost effective than gel though |

I guess we have both. :) |
Re: Ways that you save money or frugal living one my habits nowadays,
I only replace something if it is broken.
I only buy if it is a necessity.......
I always think do I really need this? Can I spend my money someplace else instead?
The only time I would not think like this is if I had like 5 million dollars.....
buying a 40-50k car with that type of money is like pennies to you.....
I only upgrade when I feel like I received a significant amount of value that outweighs the cost involved....
for example people upgrade phones every year to the newest model.
I only upgrade phones every few years.........because I do not see why I would pay $600-1000 dollars for a 1 up model upgrade of the iphone or samsung when the value is very minor.........in terms of speed and appearance...
I watch movies 3-4 weeks after it has been out.....I do not like to be near people in theater....I want the best seats in an empty theater..........matter of convenience.... |
Re: Ways that you save money or frugal living I only buy expensive name brand clothes.....if I feel that the value exists....
for instance....the thread count.....the material it is made out of.......the type of design........
I am not like kanye west.....who goes to high brand name stores and buy plain white cotton t shirts for $550 bucks each......the type that you can buy at walmart......
I have a different approach to life,
I live in a big house by myself with my two male dogs....no estrogen in here....
I got 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.......
whereas, the people in third world countries......some all have to share a bathroom with the entire community........:shhh:
Clearly, I have my needs taken cared of.... |

Put my contacts in and re-read the post.
‘Course might be hard to get that hairwax in the Eastern Bloc.
