Do Amazon/Etsy/eBay use meta data from images for SEO?

Apart from all the stealth nonsense when it comes to meta data within images on these platforms, do you think they use the name of the file to help aid their SEO?

This may sound like an outta pocket question but YouTube used to use the name of a thumbnail to help guide its search algorithm, so why couldnt these seller platforms do it too?

Since I'm not really sure, and its not a lot of effort, I have been using keywords for every single image I upload onto my stores.

What do you guys think, complete nonsense or strong chance?

It’s not stealth nonsense if the image meta data can link your account and have it suspended, as for using the meta data of the website image as the original will be erased and new data added, that’s debatable.

IMO it is not 'searchable' but would love to know if it was.

The reason platforms wouldn't use it, or should I say, allow it, is they make a lot for money from sponsored listings, promoted listings etc where you pay for keywords. Can't see them having a free back door.

I have seen some stores that managed to become bigger over the years and very successful not using unique names for their images.

If anything they all used a default name of their images from the catalog.

It is stealth nonsense, that we all have to deal with. Just because something is real and valid doesn't mean its not nonsense and annoying lol.

Well it's good you're being vigilant.

But as long as you change the image, the name itself won't link you.

For SEO, again, I think it'll be very hard to get Google to catch the image name, and I see most sellers use the generic catalog name I think because that's what most people search for
