| | | | | solefoodbk | 12-09-2023 01:04 AM | Can't take Mercari serious I've had two accounts with Mercari, my second one managed to exceed the first account in total sales, however after 20k+ and verifying your info I believe they look to suspend users. My account literally had only one return processed for item not described out of 200+ sales, and it took place months ago. I never had any listings removed, no violations of any kind yet randomly out of the blue I received an email saying my account was closed. This was with 5/5 feedback, only 1 negative review which didn't say anything bad inside the text. I know Mercari used to do policy violations as I received them before on my first account, never on this one.
Personally I think either a chargeback or something I said in messages triggered it. Regardless, I kept it nearly perfect, and yet this still happened. At the time there was $2000+ pending. They cancelled sales that were already delivered, complete and utter bullsh1t. Then the policy which I knew was they hold the funds, I don't know how this is legal but somehow it is.
Usually at some point every account gets tested, I found this to be true for myself in every marketplace I sell on. Though these are simply tests that can be passed, Mercari seems to operate under a completely different standard. They refused to let me appeal until I threatened a CFPB complaint, then asked me to send receipts as a formality. I'm not overly concerned because it's the lowest tier market and long term does not support businesses. |

So maybe you are exceeding their expectation of a sellers performance. Anyway bottom tier best avoided. |

Not to mention the amount of bottom feeders who can't form complete sentences is in abundance.
Regardless though, there are members here who make good money there. |
Re: Can't take Mercari serious bottom feeders are what keep many low end websites going... |

If you make 1k per month and have it as a side marketplace that just adds to your bottom line revenue then it works great. However relying on this marketplace as means of actual income is insane. I know you didn't imply that, and I doubt anywhere one does but I've already added TikTok and another marketplace, they've replaced Mercari monthly sales for me. I thought 5k a month I could sustain long term as I had a perfect account, but clearly that's not the case.
Mercari seems to do the most in terms of using AI for receipts, holding money after a suspension, not going through a proper appeal process etc, yet provides the least to its sellers for selling items. Ironic as it can be.
This happened shortly after I had to verify my details because I passed the 20k/200 items threshold. I would imagine once you do this your account is flagged for some type of review, and then its up to some random person to think you are high risk. Even if you are selling branded goods it should not matter unless you have some supporting evidence to conclude there is a problem. Otherwise they are using this suspension vehicle to retain funds from sellers, and keep it for themselves. Actively pursuing a problem that does not exist, usually when the funds in the pending balance is high. |

I agree with everything you said. 5K/mo is good money for sure.

Are you still successfully selling on Mercari? I know this thread is old but…
My account suddenly got closed last night and I’m going through the same issue. Over 300+ sales, 5 star reviews. 25K in sales. I am still awaiting a response from their team |
