Default $2000 limit for Mercari

Is anyone aware of a secret limit Mercari places on sellers that exceed $2,000 pending balance? To list an item, you cannot exceed that price. Last year, I don't recall if I ever held a balance higher than this, but I know for sure I did the week of black friday.

That same week I was suspended instantly, with no option to appeal.

I have since made a new account, and everything has been great. No returns, no issues, good feedback etc. Well I just exceeded $2,000 in my pending balance and Mercari within hours restricted me. They are giving me an option this time to apparently withdraw my funds after all sales are completed.

However, I did nothing wrong, so I think there is something to this $2,000 threshold, unless others here have held that balance numerous times without issues. Maybe its just me. I do not think it is exactly an immediate restriction if you pass this, though it was for me, I think it just increases the chances drastically by their bots or something.

I always knew there was a threshold, but couldn't pinpoint the number. I know with a new account there is an extremely low threshold for listing. Probably around 1k. You are a gambling person trusting 2k with Mercari. Even with losing the account, you're extremely lucky to get release of those funds. If anything is off with the account ID or inventory they'll rob the hell out of your funds. Ask me how I know. Even when your customer approves the transaction, they don't care and ignore you.

I didn't even see this thread until now.

You mean like total sales of $1000 ?
I think that'd be for newer accounts, I have done way more than this and no issues yet

I've triggered the bots with coming-out-of-the-gate heavy listing items. I believe part of it could have been using search-related images instead of my own. But if you get heavier in sales they'll audit your account from time to time and way to know where every single item you've ever sold came from.

I see I see.

I literally list random household or used garage sale stuff there and inconsistently.
So maybe that's why I haven't gotten the audit.

But they have been bugging me for a tax id whenever I hit over $400

Tax information will not link you. It is Adyen with no back check from in-house. The major linkage on Mercari is your address if youve been banned there before. Everything in the address can link you.

I know. I just don't like giving them anything. And I've never lost a single mercari account.

I have a pretty helpful update.

What happened was I got limited apparently due to "customer complaints for late delivery". I did have some orders that were delayed, but I never had any negative feedback or returns opened. I never had any violations from Mercari for cancelled sales, nothing.

So they blankety limited me without even sending me a warning probably from 1-2 customers who complained. And I'm pretty confident that $2,000+ is a trigger for bots because last year I exceeded this amount during Black Friday week. Shortly after I received a permanent suspension.

I finally got my money released, which was over $1000. I thought they were going to steal it even though I had an email that stated it would be released.

Part of me wants to open another account and just stay under $2000 balance, at the same time Mercari customer support is so bad now after they reduced staff. I don't know how this company is going to be around in 5 years with the competition.

I'm not sure either. The fact that the buyer has to pay all the fees also is a big turn off for me as a buyer.

Depop is has been my most reliable marketplace replacement since my off/on selling with eBay for the last few years.

It is great for people under age 30, and very good during holidays.

For better or for worse I think Depop has absorbed many of eBays limitations. Not going into detail but it's a good site.
