Default Where should I get an private SSL from?

I am looking at buying a private SSL. Does anyone know anything about where to buy it from.

GoDaddy offers several types:

- Standard: $26.99/year: verify domain control & secure website
- Deluxe: $89.99/year: Verifies your domain control
& identity & secures website
- Premium SSL: $499.99/year: highest level

This price is for a single domain name only, price for multiple domain or unlimited subdomain will be highter.

HostGator (which I host with) offer $75/year for a single domain (not sure if it is equivalent to Go Daddy's Deluxe)

Do you know any better SSL certificate and where to buy it from. Please advice. Thank you.

I saw while surfing there is a free SSL you can d/l, but im not sure how it works...im using HostMonster and it came w/ my package (cheaper than GoDaddy) im just learning about subdomains but I think its good to have one as a mirror site if you lose everthing? Maybe someone more experienced can provide a better explanation

You can do a self-SSL cert which lets your website do HTTPS but it fails security certification.

I've only seen free SSL certs that are demos just to show you if their SSL cert works with all browsers as some have trouble reading some certs.

Is there some other free SSL? I have never heard of anyone cracking the encryption to certify an SSL cert so I doubt it's that. Maybe it's someone making you a self cert that doesn't come up as valid.

The HostGator which I host with offers a free shared SSL but I guess it not safe? Do do I need a private SSL certificate. I can pay for that but I want to know which company offers the best SSL at a good price.

You're accepting credit cards on your site? Why not use a merchant account and forget about SSL?

Hi Apskin, I will certainly accept credit cards and will have a merchant account on my site. Wow, I had had no idea that if I use a merchant account I don't have to use a SSL until you told me. Would you explain it to me why please. Thank you so much.

By the way I am also about to buy the CS-Cart as you adviced. The package includes a life-time domain license. Does it mean I will be given a domain name for free and will never have to pay for it yearly?

If you are accepting payments you need at least 128bit SSl certification. The cheapest I have seen is through Godaddy, but typically it is much easier to get through your host. Good luck!

If you have a merchant account you will need a SSL, or do you not know what a SSL is? SSL gives customers a piece of mind when shopping
