Default Selling web domain names

I am really courious on this type of market. Regisering a "catchy" domain name and sell it to someone else. Not the ready made website, just the name.

Not necessarely on eBay, since it is a risky digital item, but I was wondering if anyone have a direct experience and if some guidance can be shared (what to do and what shall be absolutely avoided) methods of transferring the registration from one to another and payments.

Thanks.

i'm not looking for a big margin of business but the idea to think about a good domain name and sell it with profit, really intrigues me.
Any hints?

Keep in mind that ICANN has released quite a few new TLD's and has more coming down the pipe.

This is only going to make the domain game that much more difficult. Was a decent business model in years gone by, but I would think it's a little late to try and get in the game.

To each their own

It is called "cyber-squatting". All big companies, that wanted their names badly, already bought their names, or took them through the court. So it's kind of lottery now, what names will be in a demand in the next several years. Some days it was a nice business, now it is not worth it.

Do yourself a favor and walk away from the idea. It's a waste of time and money.

You're better off focusing on your own business whether that's your own products and services or even if you're an affiliate to others.

I have a few domains I have owned for years that are considered "good names". They WILL sell at some point, but it can take a long time. Several years ago, you could register and flip domains all day long and make a small fortune. But the boat has pretty much sailed on that one. If you owned "computers.com" or "Christmas.com" you could sell them for thousands, or even for tens of thousands. But there is no longer a market for names like "gooddeals4u.com" or "dvdmoviesforsale.com" and such.

These types of opportunities have a time frame in which much money is made and that time has passed. I missed the boat on this one and I wish like hell I didn't, because I am sure I could have made a few million in the mid to late 1990's with this.

Im honestly glad this post came to be.

I was looking into flipping domains. But started noticing the adverts with weirder than normal .com names and horrible prices that squatters wanted for their 'gems'.

'CJ

market died off a few years ago.

Old saying: all that glitters is not gold. Need to be cautious in this area of the internet or risk losing funds.
